Several people here subscribe to JB. In fact JB checks STORM2K on a regular basis. Anyone that cares to is welcome to post about him and his methods, forecasts, etc. as long as it is done repectfully. There are a few that can't seem to get that straight in their minds though.
As stated above any copying of his paid services to this MB will be deleted as we do not allow plagiarism of copyrighted materials.

Sorry, I just don't think he deserves the hype he gets. I'm sure he earned his meterology degree just as much as Joe Blow from the NWS down the street did. I agree with George that he cries wolf too much. Not that George would know that I agreed with him, but that's another topic for another thread.

I always liked reading JBs outlooks, they made for great reads. I enjoyed the fact that he went into such detail about his way of thinking and why and that would give me something to look for, ( say in the upper levels ) to see if his theory panned out.
I think it's a shame that you have to pay for his services now. I'm not willing to pay and I miss the debates and speculation over his posts with my coworkers as a storm enters our neck of the woods.

Not all his products are Pay.. But hey, its a corporate world.. They have to pay for the expenses one way or another. Weather you agree with his forecasts or not.. He always puts a lot of thought into them and explains why he believes what he does.. Thats what I look for and like in a forecast.. Dont just tell me what you think is going to happen.. Tell me why

Personally I don't have a problem with JB. On occasion I do enjoy reading his discussions and hearing his opinion on the Wx matters at hand. I'm interested in what he's thinking about long range patterns more than anything. Sure, he can be excitable and he does blow his forecasts from time to time. Who doesn't? As I say though, I don't read JB for the weekly forecast. I'm much more interested in his thinking about what might be coming 10-12 days out. I'm not very interested in "JB vs TPC." He has his forecast of the tropics (and elsewhere) and the NHC/NOAA has theirs. I don't think it has to be an either/or situation. I always enjoy hearing differing opinions and most importantly why they differ. Makes for an interesting day sometimes.

I respect the mets at NHC and JB both equally and neither are overrated. And I also respect the same Dr. Steve Lyons, Dr. Gray, Neil Frank. They are the professionals and know what they are talking about more than most of us do. They just don't have degrees but the many years of experience and their own sucesses in forecasting hurricanes. On a lesser scale, they have had their downfalls, but that doesn't mean we should respect them any less.
People who say JB cries wolf alot, really don't understand what he's talking about. I used to think that too. Just saying something should be watched doesn't mean it's not going to develop in the right away, in the next few days, or even at all. He just trying to give the heads up, that something that looks like crap, doesn't mean it will never become anything or even if doesn't develop, doesn't mean it will never have any significant affect on our weather.
Frankly I prefer his long-rane outlook on things, rather than waiting for the NHC to mention a "system" and vaguely so, in their tropical outlooks. But I can see the reason for them doing that, since they are they have the official word on naming systems. I guess want to contribute too much to the gossip that goes on these boards.

I carry Accupro during the tropical season. It's invaluable as a teaching aide. Joe is the king of pattern recognition and teleconnections. He's one of many tools available to the general public. Years ago when head of the NHC Dr. Frank used to hedge his hurricane tracks not based on modeling but on path of least regret. Invariably, almost any storm that wandered into the Gulf had at least one advisory bringing it close to New Orleans. Kate in 1985 was one of them that never had a chance. But I wouldn't say he cried wolf even when he did. He was alerting people to a possible danger. Times are more complicated now with market forces out there too. I think most of us trust our own intutitions and ideas first, then probably our main forecasters (NHC, local mets, weather celebrities, etc.) Problem with people saying Bastardi cries too much wolf is that he simply covers EVERYTHING there is and makes a call on whether or not he thinks it will crank.
That site is worth my $0.50 a day.

He is much better with pattern recognition and teleconnections. He does give many scenarios, but the problem again is the way he comes across with them at times ... during the winter, he was boldly talking about the ATL area seeing temperatures around 0º a week or so ahead of time. Very very bold, and very very much didn't happen. (It did get very cold though, but nowhere near that).

Refer to the above post. I agree and disagree with this at the same time. Yes, I've seen a LOT of people take things from JB way out of context to suit their own IMBY issues. But I've also seen prime examples with Larry last year where he was emphatic on Larry heading to Florida. Also with Henri hitting Florida as a hurricane.
Another problem was with his rant about Gabrielle a few years ago. It was a clear cut Tropical Storm, not a hurricane. Not one single observation supported Gabrielle as a hurricane, but as a strong tropical storm. Nothing more, nothing less.
JB is a very good met, but some of the rants he has had in the past does put a damper in the believability dept. And also wanting FREE and PUBLIC information privatized also doesn't suit well with me either.
That's my 2 cents of the day.
