No No No No No !!! Grade F guys !! I went through Hugo here on 9/21/89. I went through David here in September 1979. I went through "Bob" here in 1985. Big Deal ! NOT ! I was right here in Mt.Pleasant,SC where wind gusts of 120 mph hit before midnight (with Hugo). I still was not very impressed - even 2 miles from the beach ! All I had was a 1 1/2 foot storm surge in my area. Immediately after Hugo, I was ready for the next one within 1 month. I was expecting much more than that as to roof and property damage. My neighborhood faired pretty well and I was not too impressed, being that it passed right over us as a category 4.
That does not scare me. I'd rather take any massive hurricane, thunderstorms with valley ball sized hail, or even a massive winter blizzard over blue skies and upper level ridging ! Ok ???

Yeaugh sure Hugo was a little scary but we badly need to make up right now for a VERY BORING two months since May. It's totally unforgiveable !

Well all we are trying to say, is be careful what you wish for. Just think that those Majors kill many people and destroy many lives.

In addition, I remember storm chasing since 1995. Erin was just a cat 1 near Vero Beach,FL. I had a good time. Met someone there in the Wal Mart parking lot where I was stationed and I was monitoring the storm all night and sometimes going outside. We had some gusts to hurricane force during the night with heavy rains early that morning. I drove around during the aftermath and had to turn around because of one of the roads being flooded out and a tree in the way ! I even encountered a powerline in the business district just dangling above my car ! Good thing I saw it on time.

Also went after Fran(??) in 1996 near Calabash,NC. Again some pretty good action there a few miles from the beach.

And finally I went through Isabell last year near Jacksonville,NC. A little dissapointing - just some squalls of heavy rains all day with winds in the 45-65mph category on the western flank of the eyewall. Only damage I saw was a few big treelimbs down beside the motel near the shopping center parking lot where I was stationed, and lots of small branches littering Hwy 17 as I headed back.

Hope I'll do more chasing this year ! :D

I have not chased since Hurricane Bob in 1979. We drove my old Datsun B210 right into the eye west of New Orleans. From my casual observations I doubted that Bob was still a hurricane as the winds were not that impressive, strong tropical storm force at best. I might just start chasing again this year as my children are grown now and I have the time.......MGC
