Area to watch is south of Bermuda........

#1 Postby MGC » Tue Jul 06, 2004 4:39 pm

As Rainstorm mentioned in a post yesterday evening, a potential area of tropical formation is well south of Bermuda. This area has become a little better organized this afternoon. Perhaps this will be the next invest. Other two waves mentioned in this evenings TWO are not as impressive in their satellite signatures......MGC

Too early to tell. I think it will become an invest, but not sure about TD1. Out of the 3 storms, this has the greatest chance, IMO.

That's a possibility, but it could also acquire tropical characteristics in the days to come. It will not be something out of the ordinary since we have seen many storms done so. I still think is too early to tell but I agree with the statement which says that out of the three disturbances this has the greatest chances to develop. Let see what happens. Something more, the 5:30 PM EDT TWO is the heaviest since September or October of last year, 3 different disturbances to keep an eye. Cool after this sleepiness!

trapped ... or a NE "flyer?"

#6 Postby Weatherboy1 » Tue Jul 06, 2004 6:37 pm

That area of disturbed weather is definitely interesting ... and since it's a lot closer than our African wave, worth watching more closely, in my opinion. But my question is, will it get trapped in its present location or is it going to get bumped up and out harmlessly to the NE and the open Atlantic? Judging from the CIMSS steering flow maps, it's hard to tell if it's far enough north to get carrried away by a trough, or far south enough that it could get caught in a dead zone between two ares of high pressure.

Here's the lower level-steering flow:

Here's the steering flow for a deeper system:

Any thoughts?

As you said Mike it may well be in a neutral zone where it may meaender around but not sure yet about where exactly it is related to the upper steering.
