Speaking of driving, I think there must be a better way to get to Chicago from Cincinnati than the way AAA takes us or relatives swear is the only way - I 65 north of Indy, on up to near IN/MI border. West on into Gary, IN and then into the Chicago area - that whole stretch 80/294/90 is a nightmare to drive! My sister-in-law lives just west of Chicago, in Barrington. So you have to go thru this Chicago turnpike/toll booth mess to get to her area. I keep looking at the bigger map and just want to veer that car west out of Indy and then north up into Barrington, bypassing that entire downtown Chicago area! But everytime I say this at a family event, I sure get the looks - can't be done they say.....so are there no roads larger than rural routes west of Indy and then north onto into IL? LOL Jim's sister said she tried it once or twice, takes forever. You drive thru so many one traffic light towns. Oh well.....just recently I heard my oldest daughter, 17, still newly licensed driver say to a 16 year old cousin - let's go visit Aunt Jan this summer, I'll drive, if my mom let's me have her car. Oh sure, I'm going to just throw her into that Chicago turnpike maze!!!! I sure didn't get any looks when I said no to that idea!

LOL Mary... it is funny that people have certain ways to drive places. And then they act like you are crazy if you go a different way. And I hate all the tollbooths in Chi-town, too.

Mary, That sounds like no place for anyone to be driving, much less a teenager. Good call on that one, Mom! :)

In my experience, the A#1 worst place to drive is Boston! I'm having trouble finding words to describe. :red:

Donna - I almost had a priest run me down in Boston and I had the walk light, and more importantly, I was nearly 8 months pregnant! I glared at him and gave him the nastiest look! I couldn't walk fast enough for him I guess......well, you know how those Boston priests were.....I'll leave it that. After this encounter, I was shook for hours. I kept saying to Jim - he was a PRIEST Jim....and Jim, bless his heart since he had a touchy wife pregnant with her first child, LOL, just kept patting my arm - there, there Mary, I know he was wrong.....

Boston/Chicago/NYC - they're all known for impatient drivers! Not that Cincinnatians are saints......but we don't run down pregnant pedestrians! :-)

Scary stuff, Mary! I believe every bit of it though. It's a dog-eat-dog world in city driving that changes people from baptizing babies one minute to running over pregnant women the next.

Yep, been through Cincinnati a couple times in the last year. No traffic problems to speak of. Actually coming in from KY at nighttime, it's one of the prettiest cities I've seen ... all the lights reflecting off the river. The stadium downtown was all lit up too. Pretty cool!

Donna - I'm glad you had that impression of downtown Cincinnati! When we used to come home that way from Florida, I never tired of coming down that I-75 hill and seeing downtown Cincy right away. It always gave me goosebumps! I think Eric would know what I'm talking about too. He used to live here. Now we live on the east side so we take I-275 long before we ever reach the downtown area. Finally, it's a good thing you came in during nighttime! Otherwise you would have been tangled up in a huge traffic jam. Our entire stretch of I-75, from the southern tip of I-275 to the northern tip of I-275, is very outdated. We have usually 3 lanes running, both directions. A recent study was conducted and it is now estimated we need 6 in each direction, not 3. In other words, Cincinnati really needs 12 I-75 lanes to accomodate traffic coming thru our city, since I-75 is a major thoroughfare. And if you've ever noticed, this stretch of I-75 is land locked. So to acquire more land for the extra 6 lanes needed, the state/city would have to use imminent domain to obtain it. Right now the study is well, being studied! I imagine I'll be rocking in a chair at the old folks home before any of it is implemented.

Now you're learry to come thru my city huh? LOL Just travel overnight and avoid Fridays during pm rush hour. That's the worst time of all!

Mary...I do believe that the stretch around south Chicago into Gary, Indiana, has more trucks on it per mile than any other stretch of road I have been on..ever! It is miserable and dangerous.

Steve - I think you're right! Jim is an excellent, well experienced driver (driving long before he was 16, another story, another day, LOL). And even he is alert and ready for anything once we get off I 65 and come into Gary and then into Chicago. We visited his sister for Thanksgiving years ago. It was the first T-giving without snowfall she said, in years. Temps were in the 40s, a driving rain on that Sunday after morning as we left. He was close to needing new tires and wanted to push the life on the old ones. He knew how nervous I was that day - the rain stayed as rain but we saw many near accidents and a few real ones. Cars doing 360's right in front of us. Kids were little then and would of course argue a lot in the car. This trip he said - NO TALKING until we get home. And for 6 hours bless their hearts, they were good as gold. When we got home, in one piece, he finally admitted it was one tense ride. That's when I learned the Sunday after Thanksgiving is the most traveled day on interstates. We've never visited her on that holiday since! And if we ever do, we will leave Saturday, not Sunday! Won't make that mistake twice.

Garrett - thanks! Haven't even started packing yet, yikes. I do have things set aside on the DR table - trip tic, maps, various items, flashlights, etc. Seems we all like to wear the clothes we're packing! Right up until the last minute.

We're going to Emerald Isle, NC. I've never been to either of the Carolina's. So I'm really looking forward to it. Girls want a hot, beach vacation - just checked, highs are in low 90s. Looks like they'll get their wish!

Mary, :)

Have FUN on your NC vacation!! :D 8-) My Dad and I have been on 2 fishing trips...one at the Avalon Pier in Kill Devil Hills and on a chartered Captain Stacy deep-sea one off Morehead City and thoroughly loved it! :)
Also, one time my folks and I went and stayed for a few days at the Oceanana Motel Resort at Atlantic Beach (it was the week after Labor Day) more the off-season time...and we loved it, too! :)

4th of July weekend brought fireworks and gambling (for money and for fun). Saturday night, my boyfriend and I slept on an air mattrice, but the darn thing lost air, and we ended up sleeping on the hard ground.  I've either pulled a muscle in my lower back or pinched a nerve.  Sunday, Monday and Tuesday were horrible... I couldn't sit for long periods of time. Wednesday and today *knock on wood* are ok... some pain, but I'm bearing it. Heating pads and hot tubs helped.

classes are half way over! :ggreen: :D

I have drill this weekend and will be offline.
Along with drill, my friends and I are going to the Jimmy Buffett concert in Alpine Valley on Saturday night. :multi: :ggreen: :multi: :D We don't have tickets, but it is still a riot partying in the parking lot! FYI... tickets are SOLD OUT almost immediately! Butt loads of fun. Yes, I will be dressing up to fit the occasion... We will most definitely be taking pictures and I will email them to you guys if you would like. Myself and one of the other girls that is going have been down to his concerts before, so we know what to expect! We'll be having fun.
