Anyone else take naps?

#1 Postby azsnowman » Sat Jul 10, 2004 10:31 pm

Most of y'all know I'm up BEFORE the crack of dawn (0400-0430 MST) 7 days a week, come about 1300-1400 hrs, I'm DEAD tired and I NEED a nap BAD  I'll sleep for 1 hour, no more, no less.....and that gets me through till 2000-2100.

Every now and then I'll lay down for 15-30 minutes in the afternoon. If it's any longer than that I feel like crap the rest of the day.

I cannot take naps, UNLESS, in the rare event that I'm up extremely early(and can't go back to sleep), but that's not a given either. Usually I just go to bed early in that case because I feel like crap.

Seldom if ever..I've even heard a proven fact that having a nap can make one at times all the more tired. One of those on the fence debates I reckon.

Well I work nights..on my day off i try to get up a bit early...like 11am..to go out to lunch and make a nuisance of myself on the weather boards. Around 4 or so I like to lay down for a couple of hours. Then its more food :)

nap1 ( P ) Pronunciation Key (np)
n.
A brief sleep, often during the day.

intr.v. napped, nap·ping, naps
To sleep for a brief period, often during the day; doze.
To be unaware of imminent danger or trouble; be off guard: The civil unrest caught the police napping.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Middle English, from nappen, to doze, from Old English hnappian.]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
napper n.
Word History: The famous verse 4 of Psalm 121, rendered in the King James Version as “Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep,” is rendered in a Middle English translation as “Loo, ha shal not nappen ne slepen that kepeth ireal.” The word nappen is indeed the Middle English ancestor of our word nap. Lest it be thought undignified to say that God could nap, it must be realized that our word nap was at one time not associated only with the younger and older members of society nor simply with short periods of rest. The ancestors of our word, Old English hnappian and its descendant, Middle English nappen, could both refer to prolonged periods of sleep as well as short ones and also, as in the quotation from Psalm 121, to sleepiness. But these senses have been lost. Since the word has become less dignified, we would not find nap used in a modern translation of Psalm 121.

:)

I nap rarely nowadays due to my work schedule. When I didn't have a job, I would take a nap at least 2-3 times a week. That was the life. :D

I take naps during the day or evening every so often -- taking them more frequently when I get up at or before 11:00 AM more often; because I don't get to bed until late at night/early in the morning.

Would if I could. I had a 30-minute snooze after lunch when living in Illinois for 14 years. Moving to Arizona and not being able to do that almost killed me!!! LOL.

I usuallly get only 5 or 6 hours of sleep at night, and am big on naps. On a work day, I usually hit bottom right after lunch. A 10 minute nap at lunch time leaves me refreshed for the afternoon. Then another 15 minutes after I get home from work, and I'm good for the evening. On weekends, sometimes in the afternoon depending on what I'm doing.

I take an afternoon nap practically every day. It really recharges my batteries. Afternoons in the tropics can be quite hot and energy gets sapped quite easily (especially after a hearty lunch), so it makes sense to sleep through that period of the day if you can. Besides, I'm usually awake by 4:30 AM, so I need that siesta.
