How horrible! Chad, I agree with you...and they do need to be hunted down again, those two are vicious and know they fed in that spot before and may go back to feed there again. I've surfed at Ponce Inlet, years ago, and there were 3 sharks circling around...you just pull your feet and legs up on your board and wait for them to leave...its frightening as all get out....I hope they are able to find those suckers and put them down.

Yeah, I get what you are saying. Have to weed out the bad ones.
I did a search and found that there have NEVER been multiple sharks feeding on a seal. So, this is definitely something else.
Goodness Shan.... I would have been terrified!!

So, I wonder why these two sharks fed simultaneously?! Strange, isn't it? Please post here anything additional you find on this story...sounds just like a horror flick, doesn't it? So sad...
It was scary for me Linda, especially now that I'm not young and dumb anymore...lol I look back and say, "I did what?".

THAT multiple feeding attack is what bothers me. Leads me to believe something else happened and wondering if there are other cases like this down there. If there is, then they have a MAJOR problem Shan. One of the witnesses said one of the sharks was as wide as a car. THAT bothers me because Great Whites grow long, not wide.

I would have panicked Shannon. lol. Trust me on that one!

There was a shark attack this weekend in Freeport. http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/front/2703177 The boy just had his hand reattached.
And now, they just had breaking news about an attack here in Galveston - 19 year old female.

I certainly did not need total chaos. My 14 year old daughter was already looking out for them AND the Bull Shark because she knows that particular shark can go into fresh water.![]()
i'm not meaning to be disrespectful or play devil's advocate but why in the world would you take kids swimming in a river with alligators/sharks? it's one thing if you are a group of adults who can willingly accept the risk but kids? and especially if they are someone else's...
(note to self: prepare to catch he** for this one.)

Now pawlee, you know I will not raise cane. lol.
This particular river is a tourist hot spot in Louisiana. It was not just us but at least 100 people all tubing together at the same time and more entering the river as we were leaving. When I saw the gator we were almost to the bridge (meaning the end). I told the people about it and they did not seem too concerned. They made me feel like I saw a log. Excuse me, I know the difference between a log and a gator. Logs do not have huge nostrils and eyes!! You have no idea the anxiety I felt when I saw that gator. As for the bull shark, I know alot about them and their behavior. They only go into fresh water certain times of the year to have their young. We were safe as far as they go. But, trust me, I am never ever going back there.
As for sharks, I would NEVER allow my children to swim where there are men fishing from the shoreline. When they do get in the water, they stay right near the shore. Chad and GD said it best though.

The solution seems simple to me, and it doesn't include killing the sharks.
Yeah, we know it is just a shark. But, when there is a mutiple attack on one surfer then that is something else. Sharks usually do the "hit and run" on a surfer or swimmer. They do not keep attacking in pairs. Great whites do keep coming back to the same place to feed. The tiger shark does not. The only thing I can think of is the surfer happened upon them already feeding. (not a good thing).
Same type thing happened down on the Hawaiin Islands in '93. A lady was attacked multiple times by two tiger sharks. They feed on sea turtles. There were turtles in the area when she was attacked. Although it is known fact the tiger does not really care what it eats.

Had our second attack in a week here on the Upper
TX coast yesterday. This one was in Galveston and the other was in Freeport. Neither was a Great White, and both are expected to recover from their wounds. However, the 11 yr old boy that was bit in Freeport may lose some use of one of his hands I believe.(I haven't been following it closely, jsut know he was more seriously injured of the two and one of his extremeties was basically dangling when he was brought in)

CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. -- Carolina Beach police said a 13-year-old girl was bitten by an undetermined marine animal at approximately 5 p.m. Tuesday while swimming near the Ocean Boulevard beach access.
The girl, from Severn, Md., suffered deep lacerations to her right forearm and wrist. She was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment. She was visiting the area along with her family.
Police could not determine what bit the girl. They said there was a lot of marine activity in the water at the time due to the warm water temperatures and that several marine species could have been responsible for the bite.
