Got some big Storms Headed MyWay!

#1 Postby Guest » Mon Jul 12, 2004 6:42 pm

Just look at my radar avator. Those cells, or should I saw SUPER cells are moving southeast towards the Omaha/Council Bluffs area. A few have had tornado warnings on them. Thought about going to a movie tonight. When I saw the radar and the tornado watch, I will post-pone that for later this week.

That cell is porobably producing some ENORMOUS hail in addition to the tornado threat with VILs of 102 Kg/m2!! Radar has indicated a mesocyclone and rotation (thus the tornado warning) w/ a 100% probability of hail and Severe hail.

That cell is within an environement which has Mean layer CAPE of 4500 J/kg and good directional shear w/ S winds at 850H veering around to WNW at 500H.

Also have rotation indicated w/ a cell moving out of ERN MD in a similarly well sheared environment.

Yeah, I have seen the cell drop south the last couple of frames.

But the extreme northern 'burbs of Omaha are in a Tornado Watch until 1am.

Appears to be a new line of storms developing from near Sioux City, IA, to Columbus, moving southeast.

Is it me or have we seen more Supercell Thunderstorms than usual in the U.S. So Far this summer?
