Tornado warning issued for northeast Miami-Dade

A tornado warning has been issued until 3:45 p.m. today for northeastern Miami-Dade County because of a strong thunderstorm near Miami International Airport.
The National Weather Service said the storm, "capable of producing a tornado," is moving northeast at 10 mph from Coral Gables and will affect the airport, Liberty City, opa-Locka, Virginia Key, Little Haiti and Miami Beach.
Severe thunderstorms have been reported around Miami-Dade and Broward this afternoon, with plenty of lightning, some dime-sized hail and strong winds, particularly in the Carol City and southeast Broward areas.

Strong Storms Bring Problems to Dade And Broward Counties

MIAMI – A strong storm Friday afternoon caused several problems in Dade and Broward Counties.
Power was out, trees came down and a tornado warning was issued after severe weather came through the area.
"When the weather moves hard it gets this way. It’s been ugly all afternoon," said Don Morlock from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.
A multiple crash in Miami Shores left several cars destroyed, and investigators said it was all due to bad weather.
"We had a lot of lightning strikes, and we had a couple of fires as a result of lightning."
A Miami firefighter was taken to the hospital when he came to contact with a power light that was brought down by high winds. Officials say he should be ok.
Crews cut down trees to avoid more problems. But one of the trees was uprooted and landed near a residence in Miami Gardens that destroyed a canopy. The tarp was thrown off and the metal lied across the homeowner’s yard.
"It was big, like an explosion," said homeowner Valleta McNally. "When I heard the storm, it sounded like the whole world was caving in. I was grateful I am alive and it didn’t touch the house."
Nearby, flames erupted after lightning struck a ruptured gas line near a school. Officials evacuated several people just to be safe.
"We can’t get in to take a shower or change clothes, it’s very frustrating but it’s Mother Nature, what can we do right?"
About 15,000 People in Dade and Broward are still without power..
Opa Locka Airport recieved 3.37in of rain, Pembroke Pines 2.28in, Tamiami Airport 1.11in and Miami International Airport 0.46in.
