This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

interesting... I wonder

2:05 TWD

TROPICAL WAVE LOCATED 980 NM E OF THE WINDWARD ISLANDS ALONG 44W S
OF 16N MOVING W NEAR 20 KT. IT'S AMAZING HOW WELL-DEVELOPED THIS
WAVE HAS BECOME
CONSIDERING IT COULD NOT BE FOUND ONLY 2 DAYS AGO.
THE CIRCULATION IS FAIRLY FAR TO THE S...ABOUT 9N/10N...AND THE
ASSOCIATED TSTMS ARE PRIMARILY S OF 11N NEAR THE ITCZ. SCATTERED
MODERATE CONVECTION FROM 9N-12N BETWEEN 44W-49W.

I wonder what they mean by developed. Recent years, noone would use the word developed unless it was a TD. This year I have noticed they use the word developed a lot more liberally. They also are mentioning avery cluster of TSTM over water in the TWO, and that has led to lots of speculation in this board about possible developments that amount to nothing.

Has there been a change of way of doinig things in the TPC ?

All I think that the TWD is referencing is that how fast this wave developed (or organized, or suddenly appeared), and was nothing or undetectable two days ago. So in this case, it's a well-organized (well-developed) wave and nothing more ATT.

Remember that they changed the format of the TWDs. So expect changes in the wording (What that means I don't know). Anyhow, the wave is looking impressive attm, more impressive than anything else. May develop over the next few days. Other than that, we can watch the backwash from the trough.

I think the NHC talks about any wave that looks significant enough, to cause storminess in the Carribean Islands in the TWO. It doesn't mean they are looking for development though. Otherwise they just leave it to the TWD. We see what they have to say about this wave again at 5:30pm.

Also keep in mind that tropical waves can and do develop over the open Atlantic. Not all of them can be unambiguously traced back to the African continent.

looking very impressive at this hour

Been out all day and am checking in on the Atlantic now. I have to say that wave around 45W is looking mighty impressive right now. No clear sign of development, but there is some evidence of banding to the NE of the main area of convection, and the deepness of the convection is improving this afternoon. We'll have to see what happens overnight, but this could be a contender. Of course, it isn't getting anywhere close to the US, in my opinion, with that monster trof guarding the East Coast. But it could bother the islands if it gets its act together.
