tropical wave

#1 Postby boca » Mon Jul 19, 2004 8:01 am

the tropical wave looks like the thunderstorm activity is increasing this morning. Could this tropical wave head in the general direction of Fl or get caught in the southwest flow and turn north then northeast before getting to this latitude of 80 degrees.

From my experience these low systems have a much greater chance of impacting the US. PErhaps someone can provide one of those graphics using the current coordinates as a starting point so we can get a feel for how many do impact the US.

caribbean storms turning towards fla

depending on where the troughs or high pressure when it gets to 75-80 deg w long, depends on if it will start to recurve. Right now with this unusual trough sticking around and expected to for the foreseeable future, it could get up towards Cuba or w.caribbean, which would be a threat to somewhere along the gom coast. However this feature if it stays together has at least a week before we can conjecture on what it does, and if it slows down.
