Democrats Vote NO on Resolution Supporting Troops

Whenever Republicans question Democrats on their lack of support for military pay increases, or their views on meeting the threats against us overseas rather than in our streets at home, Democrats lash out, "You're challenging my patriotism!" Have you ever heard anyone say, "You're not patriotic!" No.

When you read stories about how 32 Democrats (and Republican Ron Paul of Texas) in the House of Representatives failed to vote for a simple resolution supporting the troops, it's easy to see why they're so defensive. This was a symbolic thing, without any money being spent or actions tied to it. The resolution received 392 YEA votes, but the following 11 members - all Democrats - voted NAY:

John Conyers of Michigan
Charles Rangel of New York
Mike Honda of California
Stephanie Tubbs Jones of Ohio
Barbara Lee of California
Jim McDermott of Washington
Bobby Scott of Virginia
Fortney Stark of California
Edolphus Towns of New York
Maxine Waters of California
Diane Watson of California

These are members who voted against a simple resolution supporting the troops in the middle of a war! In addition, 22 members abstained from the vote by voting "present" including that lone Republican. Keep in mind that last week, the Senate passed a similar resolution expressing support for the troops and President Bush as commander-in-chief by 99-0. No one voted NAY or wimped out and voted present.

Note: if the Democrats controlled the House today, Congressman John Conyers (D-MI), at the top of that list of NO votes, would be chairman of the House judiciary committee. If the Democrats controlled the House, Charles Rangel (D-NY), number two on the NO list, would be chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee which originates all the tax law in this country. Maybe not a direct quote about not being patriotic, but I know on this board alone it's been mentioned plenty of times that anyone that doesn't support the war or President Bush can leave, go live in France, join the Iraqis, etc. Just look at the post by j regarding the protesters. It's suggesting that they are not patriotic and I'll bet that if looked hard enough in some of the earlier posts before the war started, there were probably quotes made by someone saying that it's "unpatriotic" to do so.

Yes, the military does need additional support, including pay raises, but how's that going to be paid for? Tax cuts on dividends?

the PRC (People's Republic of California), if you look at the State Flag which was originally flown with the California Republic's declaration of Independence from Mexico in 1846, you will notice that the star on it is RED-seems that they must have known what the Future would bring to the area.

Actually I was referring to our Republican and Democratic leaders, not members of this board.

I didn't see j's post but protesting the war is one thing...showing that one is clearly anti-Bush or anti-American in America while we are at war is something totally different in my eyes. At this time in our country, I think every American should stand behind the president AND stand behind our troops!

However,my post was more about the 11 democrats who voted NO to support our troops...most of them just because they thought it would be supporting Bush too much! How patriotic is that? :roll:

This was my post Southerngale, and perhaps you could objectively tell me where I went wrong? It must have been when I let my temper get the best of me and called them selfish unamerican idiots! Sorry...but that is just my opinion and I expressed it wonderfully.

It is estimated (reported by Sean Hannity last night), that the actions of the anti-war protestors are costing the American Taxpayers $900,000 per day. And...they don't give a rats ass!! This takes into account the overtime Police pay needed to Police these demonstrations. These law breakers are taking Police away from protecting me, you, and your neighbors. We are in a high state of alert, and all available resources should be protecting us, but they can't because of THESE people.

They just don't get it! selfish unamerican idiots!

If we didn't have the "right" to protest, we'd be living in a country just like Saddam Insane's Iraq - get it? A dictatorship! You have every right to disagree with the protestors just like they and I have every right to disagree with you.
