The fish are REALY biting

#1 Postby chadtm80 » Fri Jul 23, 2004 7:18 am

TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. -- A man fishing off the Georgia coast has discovered that when the fish are biting, it can really hurt.
A 30-pound barracuda jumped into his boat and bit him.

The Coast Guard says the 65-year-old man was aboard a charter fishing boat about three miles off Tybee Island on Wednesday when it happened.

The boat owner says the fish wasn't hooked or anything -- it just leaped about 30 feet from the water to the boat. She says the barracuda was "sailing like he had wings."

The man was treated at a hospital for a serious cut on his finger.

YEEOUCH!

I saw something similar on the outdoor channel, the darn cuda just pounced right into the boat and attatched itself to a womans face! She had serious injuries!

Last night on TLC they showed a guy fighting a marlin, as the thing got airborne it landed slap in the middle of the boats deck, broke a chair and people went flying! Guess they didnt need a gaff

The barracuda story off the GA coast reminds me of a Rescue 911 (anyone else remember that series?) story about a woman who was injured by a barracuda while on a boat.

I was always told that a barracuda is attracted to the color silver. Did the boat have a lot of chrome? Was it glittering in the sun?

These rogue animals are a phenomena directly related to pollution of the seas, imo. Like lead poisoning would affect a human, could be mercury or some other contaminate affecting the wildlife of the sea.

Wow, I never realized the danger in involved in fishing. That's just crazy. And Eric, I remember Resue 911. I loved that show. They still play reruns every weeknight on Discovery Health Channel. :)
