BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. -- A man holding a pipe bomb entered a bar full of patrons Saturday but managers quickly took away the device, authorities said.
Gregory Rizzo, 49, walked into Benny's Ice House with the explosive device at about 1 a.m. Saturday, Palm Beach County sheriff's spokesman Paul Miller said.
The fuse wasn't lit and bar managers took the bomb away from Rizzo. Employee Christopher Watson, 40, took it outside and managers called authorities, Miller said.
Rizzo drove away on his motorcycle, but deputies found him not far from the bar.
The bar was cleared and the sheriff's bomb squad detonated the bomb by 3 a.m., Miller said.
It was the second bomb that Rizzo had allegedly taken to the bar. Watson had taken home the first bomb Rizzo brought into the bar, Miller said.
The bomb squad went to Watson's home west of Boynton Beach, where he had stored the bomb in his garage, and detonated it.
Rizzo was charged with possession of an explosive device in an occupied dwelling and was being held at Palm Beach County jail pending a bond hearing Sunday.
