A kinder, gentler nuke??

#1 Postby azsnowman » Wed Mar 26, 2003 10:18 am

During the morning CENTCOM briefing this a.m., a general (don't remember his name, too many of 'em to remember) said that "if" we drop a nuke, it's effect will not be as radioactive like the older nukes. To really feel the effect, if your not incenerated, you would to ingest the material in order to feel the effects :?: I've never heard a such a thing, I thought a *nuke was a nuke*?

I HOPE not BUT.....from hearing Gen. Franks talk and the others, if Saddams Republic Guard uses bio chem weapons, they have said, "They WILL regret the day they followed Saddams instructions to use WMD!" A few other things have been said, you just kinda have to read between the lines a little bit. They have stated in the last 2 briefings, that we DO have these nukes in place in Kuwait!

Every aircraft carries "special weapons". Both the Air Launched Cruise Missile and the Sea Launched Cruise Missile are capable of carrying nuclear warheads. The cleaner nukes is as a result of more efficient designs. In the Hiroshima and Nagasaki a great amount of radioactrive material was used in order to ensure the desoired effect. The result was a tremendous amout of radioactive fallout. That being said a nuke is still a nuke and I hope they don't get used. :-(

The Nuke bomb he is referring to is called our Nutron Bomb. It is a nuclear type bomb. It has a shock wave, but will not destroy buildings.

Current Nuclear Weapons

in the US Inventory are very "clean" with very little fallout potential unless the Russian and other Nation's nukes which are dirty. As far as their use is concerned, it has been (though I don't know if it is now) stated US Policy that the use of any chemical, biological, or nuclear weapons upon US Military forces or Civilians would be met with the appropriate nuclear response especially since our inventories of chemical and bio weapons have been demilitarized and are in the process of being destroyed and have been for years (it's a very long process).

I hope we don't. I understand that the Republican Guard is a bad group of people. But unless it is absolutely essential, I do not feel the need to use nuclear weapons.
