97L is no longer a threat in the Caribbean

#1 Postby Stormchaser16 » Sun Jul 25, 2004 10:34 am

As expected, the remnant energy of 97L is now approaching the Yucatan, any chance it had for development in the western Caribbean is now gone. However, now is the time where I will start to watch this system, the wave still maintains minor-moderate convection, if it can get across the Yucatan and maintain some surface reflection then something may try to spin up in the GOM. I would continue to maintain an eye on this system as it progresses westward.

The Yucatan wouldn't hurt what little there is of it. We'll see if anything happens, but I am skeptical about development.

Be interesting to see if the surface pressures drop at the Yucatan reporting stations when the convection comes ashore. The pressures are still quite high in Cancun.

Yea, development in the GOM is very iffy as well, and im skeptical about anything happening, however it does have MORE of a chance then it did/does in the Caribbean. The wave in the Caribbean never really had a chance because of the constant ULL and then 98L invest which gave it a good hotspot to develop convection but not to actually develop a closed center of circulation. The other problem with the wave was its very fast forward motion which never really stopped until 98L diminished and moved west. Anyway...... we just have to see what holds together over the yucatan and take it from there

For..... development in the GOM once the energy from it reaches the GOM?
