What's up with these massive pools of +6C anomalies above 60N? I found it rather interesting.

It can make for a very interesting hurricane season for the Northeast :eek:

It's the result of areas that are normally covered by sea ice not being covered by sea ice, I think. But the water isn't ACTUALLY that anomalously warm.

It's been more or less that way for at least 3 summers. I'd bet its got something to do with the multi-decadal ocean oscillation thing, and specifically the overall cooling of the Pacific vs. the overall warming of the Atlantic.
