The shortest hurricane season on record (as measured by the interval of time between the development of the first and last storms) with 10 or more named storms was 1869. The first storm developed on August 12 and the last on October 5. In just 54 days, there were a total of 10 named storms. 5 of these storms were hurricanes, one of which was major.
The longest hurricane season on record proved to be highly unproductive. 1952 saw the first storm develop on February 2 and the last on October 20. During this 261-day period, there were 6 named storms. However, 5 of those storms did become hurricanes, 3 of which were major hurricanes.

February! That is extremely early, but as it went on to say, it was a pretty dull season.
Actaully EVERY MONTH w/ the exception of march has had a storm.
JAN 1978 saw the only JAN system, and 1952, had the FEB system.
