What ISP do you use/ think is best?

I currently use AOL. I've had Comcast and Prodigy way back in the day. When it comes to DSL/CABLE I don't see that much of noticable difference to spend the extra cash.

Anyone use MSN? Do you like it?

I got Yahoo SBC DSL.... it's fine.

I've used MSN but they IMO are WAY too expensive. And have had more than my share of problems with AOL. Their tech support sucks, it's overly expensive and they really Don't provide anything for the money.

Right now I have Dial-up via Bellsouth. It's cheap and convenient. I like it since DSL and cable aren't available in my area.

I'm getting offered MSN free with a recent dsl purchase through Verizon. Do you think it's worth the install?

I have Juno Speed Band through Dial Up. I used to have MSN, but that was getting way to expensive.

We had AOL about 4 years ago. I don't know what version it was, but it was a bad experience. We had serious problems with getting on and staying on. The AOL tech support said that it was a combination of windows ME, a soft modem, and an older version on Internet Explorer. I don't know if he was blowing smoke or not. When I got this computer, I switched to cable via the local/regional cable company (Susquehanna communications - you probably never heard of them). I pay about $40/month, which includes rental on the cable modem and two IP addresses. Overall its a great experience and fast. I've hit 300+ kbs when downloading mp3's on Kazaa lite. (from multiple users). The connection is supposed to be capable of 1300 or so kbs. I've done on-line tests and it gets pretty close to that. They have a nice spam and virus filter on the email accounts and have tech service available 24/7, and the few times I've had to call, I always get through quickly. They are nice and very helpful. When I moved, the transfer of service was seamless and I kept my email and IP addresses.

One more thing. AOL played a dirty trick on me. I had signed up under one of their promotions. 6 months free or something like that. At the end of the six months, of course they didn't provide a reminder, and it automatically rolled over to a regular account. By that time I was disgusted with it and tried to cancel the account. I tried calling them and getting the account cancelled but nothing happened. So I just didn't pay the bill and it stopped a couple of months later. They still say that I owe them money but they've given up trying to collect it. When I see the free AOL cds at various stores I always grab one or two and throw them in the trash.

AOL did a similar thing to me, only we had the free year w/ a new Gateway notebook i bought last year. They automatically set me up with a regular account and began billing my card w/o notification. It wasn't until three months afterward when my statement came in the mail telling me i was over my limit (I only had a $500 credit line on that particular card). I reported AOL to the BBB and really never got any results (nor did i honestly expect to get any--BUT it was worth a try).

I heard of Susquehanna communications, though never had them. I've used version online DSL and Service Electric (one way Cable) w/ Prolog. I was unimpressed w/ both, however anything is better than AOL. Had MSN dial-up also at one time.

BTW I have family that Live in the Williamsport and State College area.

Chad's father couldn't get DSL or cable in his area for the longest time either because he lives off the beaten path. Surrounding communities did have their services though. So everyone on his block signed a petition saying they wanted it, and low and behold, Brighthouse ran cable lines to all of them just this past month or so.
