This particular river is a tourist hot spot in Louisiana. It was not just us but at least 100 people all tubing together at the same time and more entering the river as we were leaving. When I saw the gator we were almost to the bridge (meaning the end). I told the people about it and they did not seem too concerned. They made me feel like I saw a log. Excuse me, I know the difference between a log and a gator. Logs do not have huge nostrils and eyes!! You have no idea the anxiety I felt when I saw that gator. As for the bull shark, I know alot about them and their behavior. They only go into fresh water certain times of the year to have their young. We were safe as far as they go. But, trust me, I am never ever going back there.![]()
As for sharks, I would NEVER allow my children to swim where there are men fishing from the shoreline. When they do get in the water, they stay right near the shore. Chad and GD said it best though.
that's cool... i mean i understand about recreational risk, i've been skating hard for 18 years. "hazards of living" are a fact of life in anything we do. your posting simply raised an eyebrow with me, thanks for the clarification.

Ever seen a 200+lb grouper? They... bite.
Yes I have seen a 2oolb grouper and Barracudas do bite too.
Always had a blast shark fishing, but didn't like it when it was my turn to take out the chum and the baited hook. We usually fished for them when they had run us out of the water. Not a fun sight or good feeling to be riding a wave and look over and see a sharks fin riding down the wave not 10 feet away!!! Oh the stories I could tell.

One time I was deep-sea fishing w/ my Dad on a chartered boat off Morehead City, NC and this man next to us caught a brown grouper...the depth + the bringing up out of the water...caused this fish to just 'inflate' and hearing it's thud-thud as it flipped around for awhile on the deck near us before being taken care of and taken to the freezer!
