Kerry acceptance speech
Anyone watch?
WOW... the speech was great. Unfortunately, I cannot forgive the flip-flops in the senate and the voting against the funding for our troops. If he hadn't done all that, I truly think he would be a great candidate.

Yeah I agree, it was an EXCELLENT speech. But I'm still voting for GW.
I was VERY displeased w/ John Edwards though--I thought he would do MUCH better than what he did w/ his acceptance speech considering that he is said to have so much charisma and the gift of gab (per se).
BTW did anyone notice that Bill Clinton was nowhere to be found--uh oh ... better check the Janitors closet.

I wish he had wiped all of that sweat off his face and taken a drink of water. The people wouldn't mind...he was making me a little nautious with that white stuff all in the corner of his lips.
Ok, about the speech. Why didn't he tell us more of what he would do regarding terrorism instead of what he wouldn't do? He did say something about wanting to get our allies on board. Gee, what an original idea. Conveniently he doesn't tell us his plan how he'll do it.

Re: Kerry acceptance speech
Bill Clinton was gone Tuesday because they didn't want him overshadowing Kerry. He also left in 2000 well before Gore/Lieberman arrived.

A good speech, but then the conventions these days are scripted and choreographed for fluff and emotion, not roll-up=your-sleeves and get going.
He struck some nerves with a lot of folks, but then again our nerve ends are near the surface these days.
If his speech doesn't spike him in the polls by more than 6 or 7 points, he'll be in trouble by November.
But...his presentation was good and felt good. Just coming from a man who has yet to demonstrate much substance, it is not as refreshing in spite of its sparkle.

hi led!! it was a horrible speech. not once did that hypocrite praise the brave iraqis who are risking thier lives for freedom, such as allawi.
kerry chose to praise the un(french) who have stabbed us in the back and who were on saddam's payrool rather than praise tony blair. he is disgusting

I thought it was a great speech!!! In fact, it was the first time that I thought Kerry actually took time to come out of his shell and start playing a little offense, rather than being on the defense.
I am curious as to what was sickening about it??
It may not have appealed to the conservatives of this country, but to those swing voters out there (like myself) it was very appealing. And the fact that you say it was sickening makes one of Kerry's points that made last night during his speech last night.
But concerning Popsky's point... I don't think that not getting a bounce will matter if Bush doesn't get one either. The reason I say this is because a lot of the people who are undecided won't make up their minds during the convention... it will more likely happen during the presidential debates. The majority of the electorate is already decided.

I might try to read the transcript later, although I haven't even heard anything on the news about any sound bites or catchy quotes. So, as far as I can tell, he must not have said much?
You haven't seen any catchy quotes??
He did rush through several it seemed, but there were several good soundbytes that have been used.

Yes ....he did....he said EXACTLY what you wanted to hear.
To Garrett --- I might have been a little harsh using "sickening" to describe the speech. As Kelly said..I would like to hear more about EXACTLY what HE would do to fight terrorism instead of a blanket statement like "this country will be safer"...HOW John???
Going to completely seal our borders?
Going to put security at every single public building?
Going to patrol all of our coastlines?
Going to beef up our military? (cost money John...you would have to start doing everything contrary to the way you have voted in Congress all these years)
Let me guess.....You are going to convince the global community to join together to fight the war on terror?
How are you going to convince them to help?
Can you reralistically do everything you claim you can do without taxing us into complete oblivion?
If you start raising taxes on the top 1-2 percent the way you want to, aren't you a little worried that the end result might be that the small business owner (I think 4 out of 5 of the top 2% fall into this category) will be forced to cut his workforce, reduce benefits, or just plain shut down operations all together??
You must have an idea of how you are going to do a better job than Bush is doing....I mean you HAVE to since all we hear is how terrible a job Bush has done, DESPITE the fact that we haven't been attacked since 911.
People are desperate to hear things will be better, we will be safer, everybody will have healthcare....you won't be stuck in your dead end office job for the rest of your life...and KERRY said what these people wanted to hear. How he intends to do this...good question?

j... I think you raise good points. See, if you get to the substance of your beef with people instead of the short comments that come across as empty attacks your points can be digested.
The laundry list of things he plans to do... I don't know how in the world he thinks he can pay for them either.
As far as your small business figures go, my family owns a small business and do not make $200,000 a year, but since we are in one of the lowest paying areas of the country, I can see where that figure probably comes from. It is an interesting point... how does he do what he promises? I am waiting to hear his answer as well.

Nope, and I'm listening to the radio right now. But mostly, they're talking about the flooding in the Dallas/Arlington/Fort Worth area right now.
I'm sure I'll hear something shortly now that the talk shows are about to start.

I admit it'll be difficult to reverse the damage that occurred over the past four years. You're worried about taxes? What about all of the additional taxes it's going to take to fight the war on terror BY OURSELVES. It's EVERYONE'S problem.

He rushed through the speech(like talking through the appaluse and through 2 "Kerry" chants) so he could get done faster. He was worried about running over 11 when the networks(NBC, ABC, and CBS) were going to go off. As it turned out, they all said had he gone til Midnight, they would have stayed on. LOL
