Missile Alert Kuwait City:Explosions Heard

#1 Postby Arizwx » Thu Mar 27, 2003 4:21 am

This news is about 10min old..Thurs AM 27MAR 03:41 EST.
Sirens blared yet again over this City of aprrox 2Million.This time however, the FoxNews reporter Steve Centanni was visably shaken. He even was remiss in putting on his Gas Mask double time. The reason? He heard 2 loud explosions and followed by consussions. The visiblilty from atop the 18 Story Bldg they normally report from with Kuwait City's famous water towers in the background, was still moderate to poor from recent sandstorms. This added to Steve's concern as normally, the look to the West approx 20mi toward the Iraqi border is relativley unobscured.
As most of you know..in 1990,Saddam's regime invaded this wealthy tiny nation and set off a series of events that led to the Gulf War.The Soveirgn nation of Kuwait was suddenly deemed a Province of Iraq...Kuwait City, the capitol of said Province.
We liberated Kuwait in 1991 and drove the Iraqis back to within the confines of thier nation,as was sanctioned by the UN.However.Saddam is in some respects,a creature of habit. He deplored the idea of being run out of what he considered 'his'.
Obviously,Iraq has designs still on Kuwait.Several SCUD Missile attacks have occured since the beginning of the War.Our upgraded Patriot Pac2 and Pac3 systems have intercepted the 'Flying Trashcans' with amazing results thusfar,as software has been dramatically improved.However.
The Iraqis are also believed to be using on occasion Chinese 'SUN' missiles..much like a cruise system, lower flying without an apex ARC type of trajectory(Higher) that SCUDs follow. They are tougher to engage for obvious reasons...smaller and lower on the horizon. This is not to say that they are not vulnerable to our Patriots, they are..however less so than SCUDs and are of some concern, especially if Bio/Chem warheads are fitted.
Moreover, the Sirens that we hear on TV..are relatively new,and were not in place during Gulf War1.We designed the system, much like Isreals'...and the Kuwaiti Gov spent billions on the upgrade to protect her citizenry. Thus far,it is VERY impressive to witness.
Kuwait is our major Troop/Munition/Supply entry for the S Iraqi Campaign.
Also,10s of thousands of troops..possibly 100,000 have entered through Kuwait and continue to arrive and use Kuwait as a staging area.Saddam is obviously,IMO,using these innaccurate SCUDs as more of a Psychological harrassment than anything else. However, the alerts have been numerous and the citizens have become more complacent, not unlike a busted Tornado warning in say,Alabama. This is not optimal.Nor are citizens equipped as we are with Chem/Bio suits. The suburbs, consisting of 'Guest workers' are especially vulnerable..if a Chem/Bio Missile(s) were to somehow 'get lucky' and defeat our Patriots.Odds are,it can happen.
The concussions and explosions that the reporter heard was indeed,a Patriot system engagement of SCUD(s) that was successful, and the debris fell within the outer areas of the City. With visibiltyso poor,he was nervous for good reason.Thankfully, our outstanding technology, which BTW was used prematurely as a Beta test in Gulf War1 is awesome.
Kudos for defending Kuwait!Great job...thus far.

There was no chemical/biological warhead on the Iraqi missile (not sure if it was a SCUD or Chinese SUN). It was one of our PAC3 missiles engaging the Iraqi ordinance, which is what caused the second concussion-like blast. It sure scared the hell out of people though...I personally can't blame them.

Hmm Sunny shine - Because they lied and they have them as in the Iraqi regime. It never stops - all fingers point at how much of this stuff Iraq hid from the inspectors and are using against the coalition forces.
