NYC Under Threat

NEW YORK - New intelligence that the al-Qaida terrorist network plans to attack commercial or financial institutions in New York City has prompted police to urge security directors at various city buildings to take extra precautions.

The warning, announced Saturday night, didn't say how the attacks might be carried out or when they would occur.

But ABC News, citing anonymous sources, reported Saturday night that al-Qaida planned to send terrorists across the Mexican border into the United States, and that suicide attacks were being planned in the city.

NYPD spokesman Paul Browne told The New York Times for Sunday editions that the warning to bolster security came after talks Friday night and Saturday between Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly and Pasquale Damuro, assistant director in charge of the FBI (news - web sites)'s New York office.

Browne would not elaborate further, the Times said.

The city's alert level remained at "orange," the second-highest point on the five-step terror alert program set up after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. The city has stayed at that level since the attacks.

Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge was expected to visit the city Sunday, but his agenda was not disclosed.

Brent... I don't think this is the reaction that I was expecting. ;)

This seems to be more serious, at least IMHO.

I do not think they will give us advanced warning of when and where they are going to attack! All we can hope is that officials are on top of keeping us safe!

A news conference is scheduled for 2:00 this afternoon from Homeland Security. Fox News is reporting it's very rare for them to hold a news conf. on a Sunday afternoon. This could be serious.

Some of the places I dig up info has Vegas rules. Some of the info also can't be verified well enough for me all the time. In addition to this board I read 5 other terror related boards and 6 terrorist web sites every nite. Sometimes it is hard to keep up with all the intel after working 8-10 hours. wx247 I can say a current target map has me concerned as some of the targets mentioned were on the map weeks ago. If two other certain cities had been mentioned then I would say it was absolutly related but I can only guess that it might be related. Who knows if these are the actual targets or just diversion locations. I would say if these are the real targets then they would have to be real sure of sucess to hit them.

I understand. I would assume one of those other cities would be LA.
