WXBUFFJIM wrote:Very interesting to see potentially a more southerly component to this trough axis to the west of Alex. This may shove Alex right into the Cape Hatteras and Pamilco Sound area before it even gets back out over the ocean tomorrow afternoon. There is also potential this could peak at 70 kts if this does indeed occur, which is one possibility. Another possibility is keeping Alex offshore, which is still possible. But with a more southerly component to that trough west of Alex, this could mean a more north or north northeast motion as opposed to a northeast or east northeast motion at least through tonight into Tuesday morning. The track of this is very critical since the wind fields with this thing are very small in size. Wilmington, NC is seeing 5-10 mph winds with higher gusts in rain squalls while 90 miles south of there, the tropical storm force winds with hurricane force gusts start impacting the offshore waters. This will be very interesting for the Outer Banks tomorrow and the potential projected paths I'm talking about above could mean the difference between getting winds of 20-25 mph and winds of 70-90 mph at Cape Hatteras. A very small wind field with this system obviously. We'll keep an eye on it. Stay tuned.

Jim

Me and NCBird were actually just discussing the Pamilco sound scenerio earlier tonight. Lets hope that doesn't happen as it causes horrid flooding problems.

Lets try to keep all the Alex updates from the TPC in this thread:

http://66.98.251.192/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=34915

so that we dont have a new thread created for every new advisory. Thanks.

well things run much more efficiently when you keep similar posts together in one thread; or at least i think it does. But it seems others don't like organizing things.

It also cuts down on the number of useless threads.

I'd also like to see all vortex messages kept in that thread also. But i suppose that would require too much effort.

That pressure continues to fall. 993 at 5 PM to 983 mb now, pretty obvious we're in strengthening mode.

Not sure how useful this is but the NexRad radar is indicating some winds at or above 64kts, that's about 74mph. http://www.wunderground.com/radar/radbl ... &label=you

It definitely is going down. Radar presentatin continues to improve as well. It's definitely on the borderline of being a hurricane if not already. Wind gusts in the northern eye wall could potentially be gusting to 70-75 knots.

Luis,

Given that the pressure is consistent with a storm that has 75 mph-80 mph winds (max flight wind of 69 knots is pretty close), assuming that there is a short lag between the drop in the pressure and the rise in winds, it would not suprise me if Alex is upgraded to a hurricane either at 2 am or 5 am.

We'll see what happens, but I believe Alex will ultimately be declared the season's first hurricane.

Totally agree with you and hope that it does become the season first Hurricane in a little over an hour. :D

Wnghs2007,

Aside from the recent observations, historical data also suggests that Alex is more than likely to become a hurricane. Since 1950, 91 of 144 (63%) named storms that formed July 31-August 31 grew into hurricanes.

I'll say this again since I guess the message doesn't get through to some.

WE HAVE A THREAD FOR TPC FORECASTS AND VORTEX MESSAGES LOCATED AT

http://66.98.251.192/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=34915

PLEASE POST ALL TPC ADVISORIES AND VORTEX MESSAGES THERE THANK YOU!!!!

There is NO reason to have all these threads for each new advisory and the latest vortex messages.

Why don't you put it at the top of the forum then?
Everyone has been making new threads all day for advisories and so on, why just be rude to one person?
