This Year's Hit Political Slogan: 'Flush the Johns'

We'll always treasure our official Sore Loserman Crying Towel from the last presidential race, but now we see that a most entertaining catchphrase for this year's campaign has spread.

Louisiana: Today in Baton Rouge, Sen. John Edwards "had to shout at times to be heard over supporters of President Bush when he spoke at a rally at the Old State Capitol on the Mississippi River, the first of three stops in a daylong tour of Louisiana. Across the street, about four dozen Bush supporters shouted 'Four more years!' and waved signs saying 'Flush the Johns'," the Associated Press reported.
Story Continues Below

Ohio: At President Bush's appearance Monday in Marietta, "Many people were wearing 'W '04' badges and T-shirts. Some had their own T-shirts. One said: 'Flush the Johns. W '04'," the Marietta Times reported.

In Dayton, Slate reported July 8 while following Sen. John Kerry and Edwards, "The evening's final event boasts the best anti-Kerry/Edwards sign of the day ('Flush the Johns') ..."

West Virginia: During the president's visit Monday in Wheeling, one sign read "Flush the Johns," USA Today reported.

Wisconsin: "The Smith/Sikes family of the Town of Caledonia, supporters of President Bush, put out a display that's hard to misread. Along with the typical election signs plugging the Bush-Cheney ticket, the family's yard sports a large sign that reads, 'Flush the Johns'," the Journal Times reported in Racine.
"A few people each day pull in to compliment the family, drop off bumper stickers or ask if they can re-create the display somewhere else."

Homeowner Ellis Smith told the Journal Times his wife, Janet Sikes, got the idea when she became disgusted while watching a Democrat campaign speech.

"My wife said, 'We ought to flush the Johns,'" he said.

Colorado: "Republicans held a 'Flush the Johns' rally" on steps of the state Capitol in Denver as Kerry and Edwards launched their tour to the Democrat convention, the Rocky Mountain News reported July 24.

Pennsylvania: "New bumper sticker spotted: 'Flush the Johns'," the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported July 11.

Florida: "Heading to a St. Petersburg, Fla., rally last night, a knot of Bush supporters greeted the Dem ticket with 'Flush the Johns' signs," the New York Daily News reported July 8.
Jo "Bellamy, 70, continued to carry her Bush-Cheney sign while her comrades hoisted placards that read 'Kerry's Scary' and 'Flush the Johns'," the St. Petersburg Times reported July 8.

North Carolina: "Some supporters stood or sat for hours in the 95-degree heat to watch the president's 24-vehicle motorcade. Many held American flags or hand-made signs backing Bush. One said, 'God bless W!' Another said, 'Flush the Johns'," the Raleigh News Observer reported July 8.

As long as we don't see a recall like the 2000 Florida recall. But I'm afraid it may not get any better, especially with the electronic systems out there.

Hilarious. This slogan is certain to win over those undecideds and Independent Voters.

That will probably make Kerry furious. He seems way too serious for my liking.

Let me propose a postulate that the candidate with the best sense of humor usually wins the election. Time for some homework and I'll be back.

How about the one with the most natural "accent"? It's a tossup between the 2 who has the most annoying drawl, lol, but I would probably have to tip the losing hat to Hermie, especially when I see how he totally dropped his snooty Boston/Harvard accent which is unmistakingly exemplified in his 70's press confs and Cavett interview, in favor of his carefully crafted ME TARZAN belchings.

LOL...I saw an E-mailed photo of two toilets on a roadside, one marked "Kerry", the other "Edwards", with this "slogan" on a sign above them.

Not that I'd do that personally, but...it is indicative of the unbelievable rancor that passes for civility in this election.
