location of trough

#1 Postby Guest » Wed Aug 04, 2004 11:28 am

Does anyone know where the trough is situated at this point because as far as reading the threads the trough should have started picing TD2 up north. I read a thread that the trough could extend as far south as Panama has anyone confirmed this? Is this even possible this time of the year, and if it is does this mean changes are occurring, which could reflect future systems.

NO ONE said it should start picking it up now
Where the heck did you hear a statement like that?

Hey Storm,

Nimbus wrote "If TD2 makes it as far west as Jamaica then the timing and position of a digging trough will be the determining facter for a GOM forecast. This trough could dig all the way to Panama we don't know yet."

That is where I got that from. I didn't think so.

Well i dont know about how much it will actually dig, Panama sounds a bit crazy IMO, but TD2/wave needs to get a little further west and WNW and the trough needs to advance across the country before it gets possibly picked up by it. There is no way that the trough will start affecting it now.

If you were looking at the models they had the system moving much further NW-N..That isn't cause by the trough though..the initial movement WNW is pretty much expecting with a developed system..stronger sytems get pulled poleward simply because of the coreolis effect..That and the ridge driving the system so fast is breaking down towards the W because of Alex..It's later in the model frames that the system made the turn north and northeastward..that is when the Trough would pick it up and kick it out NE..

But the expected trough not even close to running the show at this point and the system didn't develop so it's a wave heading more west than forecasted..at the moment..

Exactly, the system will just naturally begin to move WNW over time, this was mentioned in my thread "examining the models" and how I felt this would put it in a place to be picked up by the trough, but also mentioned was the longer the system stays west, the later it will be affected by the trough(which as said isnt a player at all yet)..... The situation grows more interesting as what is left of this TD continues to advance west
