I think I miss John Hope........

I am trying to put into words what great qualities that Mr. Hope had and brought the TWC. While we are watching our fish, can I get some solid positive comments on this?

He was awesome. He had a way about him that commanded respect and attention. I really think he was The best in his field in my honest opinion  He never hyped anything but always gave it to you straight.

For the few years that I was really old enough to watch John Hope and understand what was going on (I am 17 now)... I can distinctly remember his true love and passion for what he did, this commanded attention and respect from the audience. His way of presenting information on the latest tropical entity was nothing short of captivating, and I think we will be very hard pressed to soon find another man like him. RIP John.

John Hope was a wonderful, knowledgeable meteorologist but I also think his appeal was because he just was the nicest of men. You could tell.
That came through.
A decent,kind, good man!
He had a Mr. Rogers type of demeanor.
He talked to us, not at us!

I will never forget how serious he was about Andrew hitting South Florida. He was the guy I listened to that horrendous weekend, even more than Norcross. He was always calm, but he wasn't as quick to write all the storms off as fast as Steve Lyons tends to. With Lyons, everything is always in "GOOD SHAPE".

I agree, John Hope was a great man and tropical weather forecaster.

You can honestly say you wouldn't be interested in tropical meteorology if you never saw Mr. Hope on TWC?

It was his insights of the how's and why's of TC formation that sparked me to learn more. it was beyond reporting unlike a lot of OCM do.

John Hope was the man. During a major storm at :50 past the hour, I would always run to the TV and turn on The Weather Channel to see what he would say. I was lucky enough to get an autographed picture from him before he passed. I've got it framed and kept in a safe place :)

Wonderful wonderful man. When I became interested in hurricanes in 1990, I always wanted to meet him.

He had many opportunities to retire, but he always turned them down. That shows how much he cared about keeping people informed on tropical systems.

I can imagine why. He'd been there to forecast the big ones. Betsy, Camille, David, Frederic, Allen, Alicia, Gilbert, Hugo, Bob, Andrew, Opal, Fran, Georges, Mitch, Floyd, etc.

He pretty much kept it up till nearly the very end, I think. I admire people who do that.

I was shocked by his death and saddened by it. It wasn't like losing a loved one, but it wasn't like the death of a celebrity or something like that either.

It was like losing someone I knew. Like a neighbor or former school teacher or the friendly postman you'd talk to.

I sometimes wonder what he'd say about storms like Kyle, Lili, Claudette, Isabel, or even Alex.

One thing I always loved hearing was how he'd always end the Tropical Update. He'd always say "And that's the tropics for this time!"

Yep...between John Hope and Neil Frank...there are not two people who have ever lived that I would want to sit down with and have a conversation with over those guys. That includes Einstein and Jesus for those who have seen Adaptation.

Completely different approaches...but the same ability to tell it like it is. And Mr Hope didn't need to read the latest NHC discussion to talk about a system, either.

Sometimes I feel sorry for Dr Lyons...he had to follow a legend...

Below is a link to a brief but very nice biography honoring Mr. Hope from the About North Georgia website.
