Do you share your computer?
Do you share your computer with other people and share internet time? How does that go?? Do you have a schedule?
Just curious because with everyone here at the house trying to get online I was just curious what others do.

There are only three of living here... (my parents and myself).
My father can careless about computers, he doesn't even know how to turn a system on. He has sat in front of it a couple times, but has no use of even attempting to learn how to use the mouse, etc.
My mother goes online several times a day to check her e-mail [she doesn't get too much] and for the immense amount of information on any topic that she is curous about. for several minutes at a time. She probablly spends about 20 minutes during her longest sessions.
So, needless to say, I am online very often beings that I don't have much else to do. Communicating with everyone here, other message boards, IMs, PMs and perhaps e-mail is one of the greatest thing to happen to me in nearly the last five and a half years.

Yes... it's actually not "my" computer, it's the whole families. But, I'm the one on it 90% of the time. My mom rarely gets on for longer than 10-15 minutes to check the email and read the paper(in the morning). My dad only gets on once in a blue moon. My sister gets on, especially in the summer, for 30 minutes to an hour at a time(usually no more than twice a day, so it's not so bad). Once school starts back(tomorrow!), then it'll probably only be that way on Weekends, except occasionally in the evening.
LOL Tom, my dad doesn't know much about this either(in fact, neither does my mom). Anytime there's a problem I'm the one called upon. My mom does know how to work it and turn it on though. I'm not sure my dad knows how to turn it on though.

My mother needs help when something happens, too. She doesn't even want to learn how to use the cursor keys after numerous times since getting internet access, five years ago.

haha well school doesn't start here until August 25. But to get back on topic, I have 4 people trying to share this computer. Most of the time I can get on whenever, my parents only use it when they want to check email or when my dad wants to know the qualifying and practice speeds for NASCAR. And my younger sister gets on it, but not to be mean, I always kick her off. So it works out pretty well for me!!

Our whole family shares two computers. There's usually no conflict, but everyone prefers the newer (relatively speaking) computer. The biggest problem is all the crap that accumulates on it. It's my job to keep them running smoothly. We do not have seperate user log ons. I believe that if we did that, the job of keeping them cleaned up would be 5 times worse. They're both adequate for the internet so I can get on S2K without much problem.

We have 2 computers up and running, both networked to the cable modem and one other computer that's not currently hooked in to the network. I have my computer- my husband has his. We can hook the third (sloooow) computer onto the network when we have guests... but most of our guests bring thier own systems and hook into the network.
Very high tech household... but we have two computer geeks... and all of our friends are computer geeks. We don't share *Laughs*

I share the computer at home with my lovely wife, but at work I have it all to myself.
Wasn't always that way....but the last 10 years or so I have had a computer and internet access from work that I don't have to share.
Guess my boss, who spends most of his time in Dover, Delaware, and Sunshine, Florida, likes to know I am always accessible!

Sounds just like us. We shared for a very short period of time. Needless to say, with 2 computer geeks in our house, that didn't last long. Now we've got half a dozen computers or so, but only 2 are actually on the internet. The others are spares just in case, lol. And very handy for parts. Dustin is not even 2 yet and he already likes the computer too, lol. I open up word for him and he plays with the keyboard and mouse. It's the cutest thing. He'll get his own eventually, but not just yet.

My wife and I have 4 kids. It took a while, but now there is a system in each of the kids bedrooms. We have a total of 5 PC's, a laptop(my Dell) and a server. We are running a win2k network on a DSL modem. Yea, lots of computers. I used to be the home systems admin, but since that is what I do for a living I trained my kids, mostly my son to take over as the sys admin. My favorite thing to do is send an email to my son, telling him I have a computer problem and please come fix it!!
He always does a good job. I run application audit logs and desktop sharing so my kids know and understand that I can be watching them at any time. They are good kids and I have never had a problem with them going places they should not be. They know the rules!!

One family computer, in a spare bedroom we turned into a TV/Computer room. Which is nice if the kids have papers to type, they are not disturbing anyone else if they're up late. But sharing one computer is a little difficult at times. Hubby has a lap top that he brings home from work occasionally, and definitely on weekends, when he works a few hours each day on it. He has airport or whatever it's called (I'm not computer savvy!) so I could use his to get on the Internet, when the kids have this one, but I prefer a mouse/mousepad. I don't like using the finger pad - not good at that, at all!
Don - my husband has emailed from literally feet away, instead of reminding me - hey Mary, I need to bring such and such to work tomorrow. He just zings me an email and I give him a hard time about it. I'm within earshot but he thinks it's cool to email me reminders like that.

Here is the itemized list:
DAD
1 Dell
1 Gateway
2 IBM-Compatible (off named) -- One is about to "die"
BROTHER
He built his computer (in other words it is very powerful)
SISTER
1 Compaq Presario (year 2000 model)
ME
1 Dell Demension about a year old
My brother, my dad's Dell and my computer are connected to a router and cable modem. Besides being able to be online at once on multiple computers, using the router is quite wise financially since you only need to purchase ONE IP address for all computers you have routed off.
