Do you think having thread titles having proper spelling and capitalization a "statistic"?

Yes, I think it's a statistic and a great idea that you edit them on a regular basis.

Yes, I think it's a statistic, but it isn't necceasary to edit them on a regular basis.

No, I don't think it's a statistic, thus there is no reason to edit them on a regular basis.

Thread topics... Proper spelling and Capitalization

#1 Postby ColdFront77 » Tue Aug 10, 2004 10:01 am

I've been curious about this for quite some time and thought this would be a great time to (finally) ask.

Thank you very much, everyone! :)

I care about spelling a lot. It drives me "nuts" to see a word misspelled. But that's just me. :)

I don't believe Tom is asking whether you think spelling is important or not. Somehow it has to do with it being some sort of statistic, which as I said earlier I don't understand how or in what sense.

I didn't understand the question either.
I just threw my two cents in while posting. :)

Okay, here's an example: I would edit "O' reilly cindemns anti vet Kerry False attack ads" to "O'Reilly condemns anti-vet Kerry False attack ads"

In a sense having a better appearane in the forums is a statistic. Sure, it may be considered a stretch; but it is statistical before anything else.

I was trying to make up some other choices in the poll, but wasn't working so I posted what you see. Oh well.

Statistic? NO

Edit? Sure, why not. If someone has a spare moment and knows the correct spelling, go for it.

If it isn't a statistic to you (Kiko) and apparently about 95 to 100 percent of the board agrees with you, what would you call it?

Would a Site Statistician job, [which I am for this site], not be associated with whatever you want to call this?

I can only do so if I have mod. powers in each and every forum; right now I only have access to change the topic titles in the Greetings & Stats Forum.

I don't think it's a statistic that needs to be reported for the benefit of a weather board.

LOL Ed

I agree with Bonnie. I can't stand misspealled werds. But I generally can overlook them because we all can tend to type and miss a word every now and again. When it becomes habitual, it bugs the fire out of me.

Tom - I don't think you meant for this thread to turn out so funny but it is pretty comical! Ed, need some help there? LOL Seriously though, typo's bug me too, just a pet peeve of mine. But I'm the hardest on myself, not others. I usually forgive others way before I forgive myself an occasional slip up. So it's not a big deal to me either.

I never implied that misspelled words in topic titles was a serious problem; figuratively or literally.

I brought it up before and it was shot down, or I should say, it seemed to be shot down.

It isn't just typos, there are genuine misspelled words that if were corrected may be benificial.

I don't think we should have Mods correcting every jot and tittle. They are busy enough as it is. I have had my posts, er, corrected before, but it was for more important things.

I am the one willing to do it, not the [all] mods.; but I can't without moderator access to all forums (beyond the Greeting & Stats forum).

There is a big difference between my offer to edit the incorrectness in topic titles versus editing posts, that would be pointless and extremely time consuming!

Ok, TOM, so I am guessing after reading several more replies that the original point you were trying to make was whether anyone else thought that someone should be in charge of editing misspellings in topic titles,..is that the purpose of your topic? Correct me if I am wrong.....but if so, I am sorry bud, but the way you worded the question in your topic does not make that clear by any stretch. But no sweat....
That said, you added that you might wish to be in charge of correcting spelling errors, but I notice you make several yourself, even in the course of this thread, so not sure that would be such a great idea. But again, no sweat.....

1- In your poll question 2, you misspelled 'necessary'.
2- In your O'Reilly example , it should be 'condemns'... not condems.
3-Your reply at 1:20pm, you misspelled 'beneficial'...
4-Your reply at 1:28 PM, you misspelled 'consuming'.

As others have mentioned, as is also my opinion, it's not worth the time and trouble to really bother with it. :)
