Powell Quote...

#1 Postby southerngale » Fri Mar 28, 2003 5:37 pm

When in England at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of empire building by George Bush.

He answered by saying that, "Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return."

It became very quiet in the room.

It just goes to show how idiotic some people can be. NEVER once, in fact President Bush has stated and restated, THIS war has nothing to do with occupation or land grabing. WHY is it so hard for some people to see there are no alterior motives, he wants to free an operessed nation.

Beautiful words by Mr. Powell.

Yeah Rainband, it was a very idiotic question.

Powell was quick-thinking with that awesome response though.

There's an old saying that people rise to the level of their own incompetance. Looks like the Archbishop of Canterbury got there in record time..

Colin Powell is a great craftsman at words, which is why he is the Secretary of State. Good response!

The Archbishop of Canterbury eh

Well, here is exactly another example of dead religion in Europe. He obviously doesn't even understand scripture. He is doing an outstanding job there as well. In England, less than 5% of the population attend a church :o Must be that they have all the answers  Bully for Mr. Powell. Oh BTW, I believe we have a few square miles in France they graciously set aside for our men. We should dig 'em up and bring them home!!
