Taking a look here, it looks like the eye has jogged JUST enough to the NNW to pass the big island south of Cuba to the East and pass right through the most slender part of Cuba. This will mean less land interruption for the system, and more strengthening time........

The NHC thought that too, forecast track takes it dead on through the narrowest part of Cuba. It seems to be on track so far.

Yup.... giving it more time to strengthen, especially now that it looks like RIC is underway
