Yeah, my brother in Florence, SC, was real excited about riding out a "hurricane" and when Hugo hit in 1989 and drove 2 trees through his living room roof ... well, he said afterwards "I never want to experience that again."

Let us hope and pray that most Floridians in harms way take this one seriously.

Wish I could say something better, but this has all of the makings of a terrible disaster. Havana is about to be obliterated if it takes a direct hit and is a portion of the WC of Florida

Hede all evac orders, please
we have storm updates at http://www.nwhhc.com/atl032004.html but I justw ant to say something to anyone who will or has been using this site NOTHING WE OR ANYONE SAYS TRUMPS INFO GIVEN BY LOCAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OFFICIALS. Always comply with every single request made by them, or else you may place your life in danger. If you are ordered to leave, you must do so. Do not think you can ride it out. The truth is, nobody on the WC has experienced anything greater than a tropical storm. Major hurricanes are serious and failure to treat them as such will likely place your life in grave danger
For Cuba or the U.S.? When it becomes a cat. 3 or 4 then we can start using the word disaster but I think the shear may "hopefully" save the people of Florida from feeling the effects of a cat. 3 or more hurricane. I just hope those who
live in Florida that are actually "excited" about this possibility know what is coming their way. I was like them until I was in a hurricane and I changed my tune quickly. Don't tell there are not Florida people I disagree with on this board because you know there are. Good luck top the people of Florida.
what shear?? that's currently moving away from the area ala ULL moving west in the gulf. There's nothing to stop this from becoming strong 3 or even a 4 except something more holy than all of us put together (which is always possible).

Riding out a major hurricane is an experience thats hard to put into words. Terror would be one of those words, though. Even if you are 30 miles inland or whatever, high winds, flooding rains, and tornadoes will tear lots of things to shreds. Especially the tornadoes. A Cat 2 or 3 hurricane is going to produce many twisters. Its a given. Don't be complacent if you are inland. Its still going to get pretty rough.

Parts of Pinellas county as well are now under a mandatory evacuation. Please heed those evacuation orders. Its for your protection and it may just save your life.

When St. Maarten got hit so hard by Luis in 1995, no one prepared properly or took it seriously because the island had not been hit by a major hurricane in 35 years or so.
People on St. Maarten now prepare when the smallest tropical wave comes anywhere close. People are still traumitized here.
Unfortunately complacency sets in when no disaster has ever happend or hasn't happend for a long time.
I sincerely hope that residents of Tampa- St. Pete take alll necessary precautions.
Remember, it is better to prepare and have a storm miss you than to not prepare and have a storm hit you.

If you are counting on shear to destroy this, you are doomed. There is no better way to put it. You ALWAYS prepare for the worst

I was 50 miles North of the eye of Hurricane Isabel last year and that was bad enough. OK my first and certainly not my last but if this type of thing scares you for god's sake if your in the evac area - get out tonight.

For those who stay behind - stay safe!
