Earlier today, I heard that officials who were evacuating people from Charlie's path were telling them to go East - towards Daytona, Vero Beach or Miami (depending on where they live) and NOT north because that's the way they were thinking the path would go. And now they are saying winds of that magnitude in Daytona?

I do not see how we can avoid tropical storm force winds. I teach school in Brevard, and I could not believe that in a county with half the school district on the beach... and causeways that close as winds exceed 40 mph, that I had to read a statement to my 4th graders that they were expected to be in school tomorrow. And my school is in the process of building, so we have 300 students in PORTABLES... no solid building anywhere on campus.
Even the lines of intnese rain that came through today... perhaps bands from distant Bonnie... scared the children in our little metal buildings...

Tell me about it!!!
The people here think this is a big joke, and I dont blame them. Flagler county is pretty much ignored by the news stations, as we are to far north to get much attention from Orlando stations, and my city does not recieve broadcasts from Jacksonville.. we have been left out of the loop pretty much. Add to this the fact that our EMS office has said NOTHING much at all and to top it off the EMS web site is not even functioning at the moment... I just hope we dont have to deal with more than the NWS has stated (30mph winds)!!!

The Grandeur of the Seas {RCCL}
on a 7 day cruise of fl and the bahamas out of Baltimore, cancelled its scheduled port stop at Canaveral for friday, substitutin an "at sea" day.
My guess is that they will be halfway to Bermuda!!!

All Volusia County schools are now closed. The only county in Central FL NOT closed is Brevard.

My kid goes to Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High, and he will NOT be there tomorrow. I don't care what the school board says. I work in Cape Canaveral, and I am told to report, so I will (it's PAYDAY LOL) and I'll take him to work with me. It would be just like the Brevard County School board to get everyone there and then close early and add to the tension and confusion.
Nobody is paying much attention here. Disturbing....
