They've got another 18-24 hours to get out of the way. NOT that I'd want to spend that long trying to evacuate- but it's not like they're going to get blown off the roads yet. :)

what normally takes me 1 hour took me almost twice as long to get home. It's chaos on the highways.

It was so bad here during Andrew that many of us were still stuck on the highway in southern Jefferson County when we heard on the radio that Andrew had turned and was going to hit Louisiana.

They fixed those problems and getting out for Lili (which also turned and hit Louisiana) was better, but still very crowded.

During Floyd, I remember hearing stories of it taking 8 - 12 hours for people to get from Jacksonville to Tallahasee (normally less than 3 hours). We were going to evacuate, but were waiting for my neighbor to get off of work. I cannot tell you how sick I felt when I called to check on a friend and was told that US 1 was a parking lot. We had waited too long to evacuate. Thankfully, Floyd turned. But that was a horrible feeling - knowing that a monster storm was coming and I couldn't leave. (LOL...guess it runs in the family - my dad waited too long when Dora hit - and my parents were stuck on Jacksonville Beach (island)).

So head warnings - and plan for HEAVY traffic! Pack a cooler (and toilet paper - the kiddies sometimes can't wait!)

Good luck!

Alxfamlaw,

How is Rt. 60 heading WEST? we are planning to leave after midnight tonight to drive from SE FL to be with my 81-year-old mother in Hudson (Pasco Cty, 1 mile from gulf).

Traffic is running from 0-20 mph along all major bridges in the Tampa area according to Jeff Morrow on TWC.

Thanks Marshall. I am only reporting what I have heard. I am at my mom's so I don't have access to my wire services. Dang it mom! Hurry up and get home.

Well that sure beats the causeway here off Galveston. I've heard that it took over 2 hours to get over the causeway -- normally a three-minute trip.
