It seems like many people in Tampa are simply not taking this situation seriously enough.

The best way to hammer home that a potential killer is headed their way is to ask those who choose to stay in areas likely to be inundated by water for the names of their next of kin. That works sometimes.

I have a very bad feeling about this. :(

Marshall - that's just too bad your father-in-law couldn't be moved. I can understand why his wife would want to stay. And well, the rest of you also. Prayers coming from me, more than ever Marshall. Now I'm even more worried about you! I thought you were heading over the bridges and much farther inland. That explains why you could keep posting.

Stay safe.

storm surge: 15-17 feet

MF_dolphin --- go! go! Duct tape is also useful for wrapping up ornery mother-in-laws.

Best of luck to you and your family

High ground in Florida? Get real. The highest point in the entire state of Florida is like 300 something feet and it's in Northern Florida. There is NO high ground in the peninsula. I think the standard joke for Floridians is that a good way to find out if you live in a flood plain is to look at your driver's license. If it says Florida, you live in a flood plain. There is plenty of information available on where to safely evacuate to. People just need to listen and do the smart thing instead of wading in the shallow end of the gene pool.

He's recovering from surgery, can't be moved. I know what that's like, having had two major surgeries in 1999. If someone would have told me back then you have to hurry to the car and sit in traffic for hours, I honestly think I would have said - you all just leave. I'll be fine.

So in that sense I understand why you're all staying Marshall.
