We may have another hurricane in the Gulf next week!

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

We may have another hurricane in the Gulf next week!

#1 Postby cajungal » Fri Aug 13, 2004 6:27 pm

I don't want to alarm anyone with everyone still not out the woods with Charley. But, TD 5 may develop into a hurricane and enter the Gulf in the days to come. This time no trough is coming down, so this one should veer more to the west. Then, us in the central-west gulf would have to keep close tabs. Just heard this on the New Orleans News.

I also heard on the local news that it "should" be in the Gulf by next week, and you are right, there are no fronts coming down... So West Gulfers watch out... It might be our turn...

Well it looks like these first three storms may be a sign of things to come for the rest of the season. Hopefully Florida avoids any more trouble this year.

no one is wishing for another storm. The fact is TD 5 could be a potential problem for the islands, and then possbly somewhere in the continental US. This bears monitoring, and preparation.

Zoe, you are right down the road from me. I live in Schriever. Maybe I can meet you and we can discuss the storms. I work at Sears.

cajungal-the one in Houma? yeah that would be nice I think there are a few of us from houma on this board. I guess a large area of the population would take these storms seriously when we all live in glorfied mashlandsLOL

Where do you see anyone in this thread say they are wishing up another storm? Take a look at the tropics. There is another one out there.

-removed-: Saying that a minimal depression west of the Antilles "should be in the Gulf" in one week + time frame and a hurricane threat to Louisiana and west thereof..
I thought that the destruction that Charley brought to Sanibel/Ft Myers would quell this at least for a little while
I was wrong!!

I disagree. I don't think Cajungal is -removed-, but simply making a very accurate statement. TD #5 IS to be watched, and it COULD very well head towards the GOM again. She didn't say it "should" be in the Gulf, but "may be," two completely different phrases.

Hial2? Have you LOOKED at the NHC's forecast track for TD 5?

She also mentioned that she had just heard it on the news in New Orleans. What is wrong with keeping tabs on what local mets have to say? As the storm draws closer to the U.S., we'll all have more information available to us as to where these storms "may go". As for me, I watch them all. I have a great deal of respect for Mother Nature, and my heart goes out to anyone who has to endure her wrath. There is nothing wrong with being concerned.

IT'S NOT -removed-, by saying TD 5 might make it into the gulf and would be a west GOM threat. It's middle August and strong fronts like the one we just had which caused Charley to hit SW Florida aren't supposed to happen this time of year. Look at climatology and you'll see what I mean.

I agree with those who think it's right to watch & be concerned. That's NOT the same thing as -removed-. Hopefully Charley will wake up many coastal residents and cause them to think about evacuation plans, buy plywood or shutters now, get their emergency kits ready, etc. Better for the folks in TX or LA to look ahead to a possible risk and be prepared now than to wait until the last minute when we "know" where TD5 will end up.

Thank God a lot of folks evacuated Sanibel & Captiva even though they didn't know they'd receive a direct hit.

hial2- I think you are being very rude. Charley was once a minimal depression that beared watching. cajungal and my information came for our local professional and well resepted mets who believe that this TD has the POTENTIAL to enter the gulf as a hurricane. I would think that especially after Charlie vigilence over these systems and preparation would be encouraged not insulted. Besides this is a tropical weather forum and we are here to exchange information about these systems.

Indeed. Other than the possibility of TD5 winding up south of the GOM, there's really no where else for it to go. Likewise, I'd be surprised if TD5 doesn't make atleast minimal hurricane status. Doesn't seem like -removed- to me, hial2.

-removed-?

The NHC track has this system moving through the Lesser Antilles on Sunday, then becoming a hurricane Monday south of Puerto Rico, and then over Jamaica on Wednesday with winds of 90 mph and on a be-line for Cuba and the GOM again. Serious. Could easily be a dangerous hurricane before the end of 5 days(remember Charley strengthened a lot faster than forecast).

Let's all take a deep breath, no -removed- going on here, these are true observations and the GOM is definitely the hot spot this season so far, after what we have all just witnessed with Charley, no-one is -removed- anything. Relax and just keep all eyes on the tropics..............still a lot more to come, just be prepared..........everyone!
