Morning Report from Cape Canaveral

#1 Postby SeaBrz_FL » Sat Aug 14, 2004 4:43 am

Still a bit breezy this morning, but no rain. Officials are estimating this area received gusts up to 70 mph last night, but we received very little rain. Early reports are estimating .39 inches for this area, and less than 2 inches for Orlando. Orlando Int'l Airport (45 miles west of me) reported wind gusts of 105.

It's still dark, but I don't see any major damage directly around my home. Local stations are starting to show damage in Orlando and many major roads are impassable due to downed highway signs across the lanes. I lost phone service early last night (still out), but am extremely fortunate to have all other utilities. 600,000 others in the immediate area (Central FL) have no power according to the news.

Authorities are pleading with people to stay home and off the phones until at least 10 am this morning and preparing us for the devastation we're going to see throughout the state after the sun comes up. Quote: "Damage much more extensive than we realize."

I hope the other S2K'ers in this area faired as well as I, and best of luck to those in the Carolinas.
