Easy way to sum up Charley...

Of course, I tried to do my best to track Charley 24/7 on the Tropical Round Table. So, I went to bed yesterday with 110 mph... wake up with 145 mph! I was almost sick to my stomach. At it's peak of 145 mph/ 941 Mb... Category 4 Hurricane Charley made landfall near Port Charlotte with winds again... 145 mph. As Hurricane Charley moved inland, winds decreased to 140 mph, then 115 mph, then 85 mph by the time it headed towards the Carolinas. Bottom line:

*Charley first major hurricane to hit US since Bret in 99'
*Charley first direct category 4 landfall since Hugo in 89'
*Charley may replace Andrew/Hugo in terms of damage
*Charley may NOT be the worst of 2004.... STAY ALERT

After seeing what Charley did to Florida, I would cringe at the thought of one hitting Houston. I surveyed most of the buildings around Houston while driving somewhere and it would not be pretty. All of you people -removed- a powerful hurricane on Houston should shut it, you want no part of one and you know it.

Charlie is only the second "C" storm to hit Florida. The only other was Hurricane Cleo in 1964. Nothing scientific about this. Just a trivia tidbit at most.

I totally agree with you Houstoner. One would be crazy to want that kind of damage across the HOU-GAL areas
