Report from my stepdad's brother in Orlando

It was good to finally hear from him! Here's what he said:

Well, we made it through Charley. The first rain band hit about 4:30pm and the second around 6:30. By 9:00 we had 80 mph winds gusting to about 90. The eye passed about 10 miles from the house and we were in the right hand quadrant out front. The airport, which is about a mile and a half from us recorded a gust of 150mph. The sustained winds reached 90 to 100 until the eye passed around 9:30-10:00. We lost power at 10:40pm and didn't get it back until 10:00 this morning. The airport closed this morning and is still closed due to damage to all the jetways. We didn't sustain any damage to the house which amazes me because things got so violent last night. I cooked breakfast and coffee on the gril this morning and just as I finished the scrambled eggs the power came back on. It was nice to have air conditioning again. Things are pretty much back to normal except the cable is still out. That's about it. I appreciate your conern and thought I'd let you know all is well.

I'm assuming he meant 105mph, rather than 150?

How come he got his power back?My neighborhood is still in the dark. :( But then again all the powerline poles in my neighborhood are down.

Great new GalvestonDuck. Charley has been an emotional event. Sure its part of being a new parent but also seeing and knowing how intense Charley became. Its downright frightening. Hopefully Earl will not be a NW GOM event but an enhanced respect has refreshed.

Lyle -- possibly. I'm glad he and his wife are okay. Not gonna bother him about a typo. :)

Opal -- I'm sorry. I'm hope they get yours up and running soon also. :)

Nope, I bet he meant gusts to 150. If sustained winds are about 100, then a gust to 105 isnt really a gust, is it? (i dont know for sure, asking here....)
