Seeking info on Family and Port Charlotte Mobile Home Park
Still havent been able to reach my mom, step-dad and grandfather in Port Charlotte. I realize this is needle in haystack material but anyone with any info on the Mary-Lu Mobile Home Park located on harborview Rd in Port Charlotte. It lies right on the bay so I fear the worst. Not knowing what's happened to them pure agony....I believe they were seeking shelter in South Port Square Nursing Center also in Port Charlotte (my mom works there) All the phones seem to be out and I am at whit's end. Thanks for any and all info anyone might have.

No news is good news...
Remain optimistic and remember that no news is good news. Sounds like they had a place to go.

Try contacting the local news affiliate and see what they know; you may be able to get thru that way. Good luck and the creator bless.

They should be OK then. Most of the sturdy buildings there had some damage, but mainly to the roofs.
It may be awhile. Be patient. They are saying it may be weeks before everything is back to normal.

Hopefully, you might be able to contact a news media outlet, or maybe one might be reading this board and will try to help to locate for you ... Also try to contact area hospitals if you can ... and if anyone can get that information about the locations that MaineMike have inquired about, please post information or contact MaineMike, via PM ...
I hope you will hear from them very soon and that they are safe and sound ...

One of the newscasts I was listening to out of Ft. Myers had a telephone number for people to call into. I am thinking it was NBC-2. You might try http://www.nbc-2.com/ site for that toll-free number. Currently down right now

I contacted WINK TV in Fort Myers but they had no info on that area. They do have people answering phones if anyone else also needs information.

and I found this link
http://www.floridadisaster.org/
It didn't help me really, but there it is for others to check out.
Thanks so much for the kind replies. It is so appreciated!
I'm so glad I found this board:) I'd been scouring the net for hours trying to find a newsgroup/chatboard anything....It's so hard to be so far away when you know your closest relatives are probably going through the worst experience of their lives.

MaineMike try this which is also a sticky in this forum if you haven't already.
Ham radio and the Salvation Army operate something called SATERN. It's an emergency radio network that assists locating unaccounted persons in Florida.
Via email and battery ham radios, they are capable of conducting health and welfare checks in areas affected by Charley and without comm capability.
Please share this information with others who are concerned for the welfare of unaccounted family members:

Reports from inside the area today suggested that most cell phone signals weren't working very well...most of the towers in the area are down.
Chances are your family is OK but it may be a couple of days before you hear something.
Their website is up so I went ahead and sent a text message in case somebody associated with the home can read it. If they reply I will let you know ASAP...I suppoe you could try too. It's a longshot but it's woth a try. This the form I used:

MaineMike-- Hope you hear from them soon. My thoughts and prayers are with y'all!
We're still trying to locate some family friends in the historic area of Fort Myers. So, everyone, I appreciate the info, too. We may have to use some of those resources if we can't contact them in the next day or so. Y'all are great!

I am sorry I dont have the contact number, but I saw on an interview last night with the Red Cross that they have a hotline to call where they will actually get your information, and the names and info on the people you are looking for, go check on them, and call you back. You could check the red cross website and then call in a general number, and perhaps they could get you the correct one.
