We all hope so after that huge blow from charley. I was noticing some online videos of this thing from ground zero, Punta Gorda and wow what a blow that was. As for below normal SSTs, Perhaps due to upwelling from Alex and Charley. However for the rest of the Gulf Of Mexico, it still seems like it's well above 80 degrees for the most part. I think Earl is something to be reckoned with in the Gulf Of Mexico by next weekend.

That seems very possible. You have to remember that this is a difference from the climatological norm, so it doesn't necessarily mean those waters are cold. Charley was over land for quite a while, so the low level center, although very much intact, took a beating, so it probably wasn't able to reorganize the feeder bands in time. Alex, and Bonnie both likely churned up coolers waters here though. Also, notice the NW Gulf and how 'cool' it is. That is from the cold front down there. Once the winds over the gulf become more SW and the air reaches equilibrium with the water, the warm water in the Bay of Campeche should slosh back. Check out this site too:

Remember, Alex formed as a major in these very same "cold" waters.
