I live on the Eastern Shore of Maryland - mid-Shore (Caroline County) which borders Delaware, perhaps 45 miles from the ocean.

At its worst the wind was so low we couldn't hear it over the a/c and I doubt we got a quarter-inch of rain.

Can't see it, all that time over cold water - the system would surely be nothing more than a LP with zero tropical characteristics? Interesting thought though, we have had many records recently.

Tonight I was awoken by huge lightning and thunder. What? Isn't Charley way past us already? Apparently, tropical moisture dragged up the coast by Charley is causing a massive wave of thunder storms across the Charleston area. Flash Flood Warning, Flood Warning, water, water everywhere. Not very happy about that. Haven't slept in two days and now I'm worried about my Jeep floating off...

I voted no purely because a Cat 5 brings catastophic destuction. Certainly from the images and footage we have seen the damage has been terrible, but not catastrophic. I know the people affected by property damage and who lost loved ones will quite rightly think different. That said, did I hear that the air pressure surrounding Charley was pretty high thus creating a more intense pressure gradient than that you would normally see at 941mb?

Well got back home last night to find we got a little more wind damage here than where I went to ride out Charlie. Tree's down and branches and pine cones filled the yard. Some very minor roof damage (but no water got inside). No electric. As of this morning they are reporting still over 40,000 without electric with my electric company alone. When the hubby called this morning they said we would probably not have electric till tomorrow (Monday) morning (and thats with a medical necessity order registered with them). We herd from a neighbor they sent some trucks and workers down to aid those in Florida so I won't complain as they need all the help they can get down there. We finally bought a generator this year when they predicted another bad year, so at least I can stay at home now until the power comes back.

This is in response to a s/w developing along the strung out trough and it continues to plauge the area ... notice earlier yesterday as Charley pulled off to the NE of us, how nice and cool the air felt ... but 6 hours later, all the heat and humidity returned with a vengeance as the winds did a complete 360º and were once again out of the south and southeast ...

I received a strong thunderstorm this afternoon which dumped .71" of rain and actually was two times more than what Charley brought us.

Now imagine it with 130-140 mph winds and rain so thick it looks like a raging blizzard. Then add rocks, boards and dirt to the mix all the while you know it's only half over.

Well, Charlie whipped my butt, and I will be without power for prob another week.. But when I get back Up I will be adding a Hurricane Charlie Picture section to the site.. As Hurricane Charley approached the Florida coast, wind speeds increased to a top speed of 148 knots (170 mph) while the diameter of the storm's eye decreased to an intense 5 miles.
