My floppy disk drive is messed up for some reason..

#1 Postby Guest » Tue Aug 17, 2004 6:15 pm

I had a floppy half way sticking out of my TOWER unit and I accidentally bumped it with my elbow and partially cracked it. Had a little trouble getting it back out but finally managed. Now when I insert this diskor any other non broken floppy disk in, it asks me if I want to format the disk..This is sure not normal...and not sure how to correct it..I can hear and see the disc spinning when I try to open a file off the disk but it responds, not with a list of files, but with that error message to format it...and I don't want to format/erase any disk....could I have damaged the track or something inside when I pried it out with pliers(from the outside, didn't mess with the inside.) Any advice welcome?!?!?

It sounds like you've damaged the drive itself. I would say take it to a show except the diagnostic cost would be more than the replacement drive. I would just buy a new floppy drive and replace it. You can probably get one for $15.00 or so.
