Welcome back John, and glad it all turned out well foryou.
I talked to my daughter last night, they finally got a hotel room near where she works as the electric is on there (near Florida Hospital) and she says they really aren't sure when it will be back on where she lives in Altamonte. They escaped any damage on their home, so far everyone I care about in Orlando is safe, and you and the other board members from there as well, which is so excellent. Now if I can hear from my Port Charlotte friends, I could stop worrying.

Caribepr - hello, we haven't met before. I'll pray for your friends in Port Charlotte. I am grateful our FL S2K members came out okay too! We have a lot down there and we could have easily had one in the hospital, or worse. Won't go there! Well, just wanted to say I hope and pray your friends are fine too.

Thank you, Miss Mary...just tried again, one phone doesn't ring at all and the others don't answer. Hopefully soon!

I wonder how many senior citizens had cell phones? I'm guessing not many. I know I'm the lone holdout in our family and group of friends (I'm 49). I just don't want one! My mom can't even program her VCR (she's almost 80). Can't even set the clock correctly, it flashes constantly! She calls me to tape shows for her. After seeing the damage down there, I can see why phones aren't working there. I hope you hear very soon caribepr.

Just posted this local story on another thread here. Folks who used to live in the Cincinnati area, but relocated to Punta Gorda. They rode the storm out and survived. Perhaps they may live close to where your friends lived caribepr? Just knowing this family survived may help.

Thanks for checking in John! Glad you're fine and didn't have much damage to your house. Hope that power gets back on soon.

I heard that mosquitos are brutal after a hurricane. Sounds like you can confirm that.

I'm not sure about this but I have a friend from here that works with FEMA and she is now in Florida. I talked to her husband yesterday and asked if she could check on my friends. If there are others who haven't gotten in touch with family yet, you could PM me and I could give him a list to ask her about. Again, I'm not positive this will work but it's worth a shot. I know she will be extremely busy but I'm going to try it.
