Pop vs. soda vs. Coke? POP

Icebox vs. fridge? Refrigerator here

Ice chest vs. cooler? both ~~ the deliniation around here... if it is a big one it is called an ice chest, if it is small and compact it is a cooler

Tissue vs. Kleenex? kleenex

Basement vs. cellar? these are two different entities here... basement is below your house and cellar is outside not connected to your home.

Couch vs. sofa? couch

Creek vs. crick? creek

Over there vs. yonder? LOL, actually I say "over yonder" LMAO

constantly vs. steady? constantly

getting ready to vs. fixin' to? either

carry a bag vs. pack a bag (pack means carry in E. KY) : either

urinate vs. make water (more E. KY nonsense) : go pee, to be quite crude about it

dinner vs. supper : supper

watch TV vs. look at TV (soooo Texan) we don't watch tv around here... we watch the shows

call the cops/police vs. call the law: call the cops

Not to mention how we pronounce things differently all over the US (and abroad) -

"puh-leese" vs. "POH-leese" (all one syllable)
"conner" vs. "corner" (corner)
"corter" vs. "quarter" (quarter)

and spelling?

theater vs. theatre (true dramatists spell it theatre ;) )
color vs. colour (color)

Some more...

*If something is crooked, we say it is "squee squad".
*Also, I notice I say convenience store instead of gas station like everyone else around here.

When you're going somewhere in Florida, you hop on 95. Meaning I-95, the interstate....in Cali, you're hoping on the 5 or on the 15....every freeway is called "the" whatever road it is....I've noticed that only here....

Pojo - we've been to Wisconsin but I didn't hear these terms spoken last summer on our vacation to Door County! I have heard neighbors say were you born in a barn for close the door! Just wasn't a saying I used.

Speaking of Wisconsin, I keep trying to find my favorite flavor of ice cream from there, down here in Cincinnati. It was Praline Caramel - rich vanilla ice cream, with crunchy pralines and swirls of caramel. No chocolate or other nuts. I think I had one dip each day when we vacationed there! We saw so many ice creams stores - with a minimum of 25 flavors to choose from in each store. Or maybe you call them ice cream parlors? I did realize I was in the Dairy Heartland of the Country or however the slogan goes. Since then I've tried to find this same flavor and each time I am thoroughly disappointed - even in the frozen section of grocery stores. Nothing compares to what I had in Wisconsin. Yesterday Laura and I went to a shop in Bellevue, KY - a family run ice cream/candy shop called Schneider's. I had to settle on Butter Pecan. Laura said later - oh give it up Mom, you'll never find that flavor down here. So if you like this flavor Shannon, think of me - I miss it!!! If I ever get back your way, first thing I want is ice cream! It was very good up your way. We have an excellent family run business down here called Graeter's. The one Oprah said on air was her favorite ice cream, a year or so ago. Business nearly doubled after that! Their ice cream is very good, but very rich, almost too rich for me. And again, they don't offer Praline Caramel. Maybe I need to suggest this new flavor? LOL

Dang it Garrett - why can't I find this flavor in Ohio? I'm in the Midwest too. LOL Grrrrr.......I loved this flavor!!! Maybe I should just make it myself, we do have an ice cream freezer....it's a lot of work though. Mmm, maybe I just solved my problem?!!!

Porch vs Veranda

close the light vs shut the light

also, ever notice when you are up north and you ask how far away something is, they NEVER tell you the distance. They tell you how long it takes to get there.

Down the road a piece vs a Country mile
