'Fahrenheit 911' To Be Financed Through Gibson's Company

While he caused a big furor at the Oscars Sunday with his controversial remarks about President George W. Bush, documentary filmmaker Michael Moore is hardly finished with taking the commander in chief to task.

According to Variety online, Moore is putting together a deal with actor Mel Gibson's production company to finance "Fahrenheit 911," a documentary that will trace the roots of terrorism against the United States.

But perhaps most shockingly, Moore will also spell out alleged dealings between two generations of the Bush and bin Laden clans, according to Variety.

"The primary thrust of the new film is what has happened to the country since Sept. 11, and how the Bush administration used this tragic event to push its agenda," Moore said in the Variety report.

Moore said the film "certainly does deal with the Bush and bin Laden ties," and "asks a number of questions that I don't have the answers to yet, but which I intend to find out." The trade paper said Moore has done research for the film for a year.

Described as a "circumstantial" tie, the Variety report said that the business relationship began with former President George Bush and Saudi construction magnate Mohammed bin Laden, the father of Osama -- a relationship that endured.

"The senior Bush kept his ties with the bin Laden family up until two months after Sept. 11," Moore said.

Moore plans to release "Fahrenheit 911" in time for France's Cannes Film Festival in 2004 -- a release timed to come before the presidential election that fall.

Variety said that Gibson's Icon Productions acquired the rights to back Moore's film by laying out an eight-figure bid in upfront cash. Moore's recent Oscar-winning documentary about the American gun culture -- "Bowling for Columbine" -- was shot for $3 million and has earned nearly $40 million worldwide.

The filmmaker received a standing ovation as he marched toward the podium for his "Columbine" win Sunday night in Hollywood, Calif. However, the atmosphere changed as Moore's defiant acceptance speech progressed.

Moore, who invited his fellow documentary nominees onstage in a show of "solidarity," said, "We like nonfiction and we live in fictitious times. We live in a time when we have fictitious election results that elect fictitious presidents."

The crowd half-cheered and half-jeered with his remarks, but the sounds turned to mostly boos as he went on: "We live in a time where we have a man sending us to war for fictitious reasons, whether it's the fiction of duct tape, or the fiction of orange alerts -- we are against this war Mr. Bush. Shame on you Mr. Bush, shame on you."

The jeers drowned out the remainder of Moore's speech, as he said, "Any time you have the pope and the Dixie Chicks against you, your time is up!"

Amanzi how about showing Moore your mooning smiley for me

Shame on you Southern Gale. I'd like to stick a fork in his eye and twist it :grrr: Well, there are business ties all over the world that many don't even know exist. Some don't even know where their money is being invested. We had a relationship with the Saudis, no doubt, and the Black sheep blew town. We are not enemies of all the Saudi Princes. Osama was the bad apple. In truth, many of the other apples are rotting. But the key here is that he doesn't have all the answers and he's going ahead with this film. Let's trace the money that the hollywood stars have invested  I'm suprised Mel Gibson is involved in this; he's more sensible than that I thought :o Can't wait until the Communist /Socialist hollywood idealists realize that they're CAPITALISTS!!!

I can't believe Mel Gibson is involved either. If he really is, I'll be shocked!!

It doesn't sound like anything he would want any part of, especially considering his latest comments. I'd like to hear what he has to say.

its not a shock that bushs family may have business ties to bin ladens family.

lots of american companies do.
but it is also a fact that many of bin ladens relatives dont want anything to do with Osama or be connected with him in anyway. some from what i understand have changed their names to further distance themselves.

also i would like to point out that Michael Moore is a humorist. and as such many of his comments should be taken as with tongue firmly planted in cheek.

About time we arrest him for sedition. You do not have the right to protest a war. That has been upheld by the US Supreme Court many times. His sorry rear end should be imprisoned for sedition, which is a felony and must be enforced

You have a right to protest a war Derek! While I don't agree with the protest it's every American's right. Remember, we're fight to preserve freedom! Where did you ocme up with that? Protest is one thing sedition is entirely different.

Supreme Court in 1923 upheld the Sedition Act of 1918, which imprisoned people for merely protesting the war. Now, that law may have been repealed, but I am not sure.

Besides, these people are not just protesting the war, they ar einterfering in day to day activities.

Also, the Attorney General of San Fransisco dismissed EVER felony charge against the protestors, even assulting a police officer in their protests. Some liberals think liberals can do whatever they want

Derek... analyze that for a sec okay? If that were true, then we have ALOT of people to arrest. On another note, when the media says there are tens of thousands of protestors, do not put alot of belief in that. When in fact, there could be only 2500 or less. How do they count all these folks? Do they make them walk through a people counter like they do at theme parks? lol I highly doubt that. But you are correct about the liberal statement!

And before Moore made a fool out of himself at the Acadeny Awards, can everybody actually say they knew him or ever heard of him? The media is NOW making sure he is rubbed in our faces. They should silence him, not give him publicity!!

While I disagree with Moore's stance he has every right to express himself insofar as he does not threaten our National Security,Conspire to overthrow the US GOV or Aid and abet the Enemy. He has done none of the aforementioned. You know full well he has not.If you do not understand the Ammendments of the US Constitution or The Bill of Rights,I suggest you lay down the Neo Nazi Literature that espouses the very nonsense that you spew and respect the laws of the land that I along with Millions of others fought for.

"some liberals think they can do whatever they want"

Ummm...I believe taht is being harshly critical of the liberals, while leaving the conservatives looking like Snow White. There are extremes in both mindsets...

Huh? Don't follow your last reply. I was replying to Arizwx and his baseless accusations of me reading Nazi Literature, even though I have never once as much as watched one of their films or read their works. What is most disturbing, he knows this is probably true, but doesn't care either way, just wants to spew
