Winter Prediction!!!

#1 Postby Guest » Thu Aug 19, 2004 1:59 pm

This is the winter prediction from the Farmers Almanac from September to December for the Northeast (Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachussetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut). Kepp in mind their forecasts have been pretty accurate (they predicted Pres day storm and Hurricane Alex along with the cool summer so far). Just don't think that exactly this will happen, but hopefully it does!

SEPTEMBER:
1-3:record cold temps, but fair skies
4-7:clearing, unseasonably chilly air after rain and showers
8-11:continued chilly air, dry
12-15:lots of coudiness
16-19:showers move in
20-23:more light showers
24-27:cloudy skies, widely scattered showers
28-30:increasing cloudy

OCTOBER:
1-3:partly cloudy, possible frosts New england
4-7:dry, cool
8-11:substantial rains move in from the west, then clear and cooler
12-15:generally fair skies
16-19:blusterly, cool winds buffet much of new england
20-23:cold northerly winds new england, then locally hard showers
24-27:rainy skies
28-31:stormy weather especially new england

NOVEMBER:
1-3:brief spell of cold new england into mid-atlantic
4-7:clear skies,crisp mid-atlantic the milder
8-11:rapid temperature changes accompany an intensifying storm: expect a heavy dose of rain/wet snow, much colder
12-15:lingering clouds, spotty precip., the turning colder
16-19:light snow, flurries, cold
20-23:dry,cold
24-27:wet weather predominates for thanksgiving
28-30:lingering showers of rain/wet snow

DECEMBER:
1-3:lots of clouds, rain/wet snow showers
4-7:storm from texas moves up ohio river valley, then new england, depositing heavy rain/ wet snow. very cold air follows
8-11:unseasonably cold, but quiet
12-15:heavy dose of snow
16-19:considerable clouds, but little precip.,cold nights and milder days
20-23:rain/snow then bitterly cold
24-27:the stage is se for a good old-fashioned white christmas for the region as a storm emerges out of eastern gulf of mexico and progresses north along seaboard
28-31:blustery, very cold with frequent snow showers.

The best part that I think is- you guessed it, the White Christmas snowstorm! That kind of storm( from E GOM up the Coast) Is a Nor'Easter! Hopefully it happens and we get 2+ feet of snow on Christmas!!!

I don't know how accurate it is but it always seems that the forecasts are fairly vague and cover a large region therefore you can mold anything you want out of the forecasts. It's like fortune-telling.

Because I'll be moving about 250 miles west from the tidewater area to Lynchburg I bet I'll be happy with the winter.
