What a nightmare this week has been. We're all fine, just this no electricity thing is killing me. 6 days now and still no power. My mom just got her power back this morning, so here I am, basking in the air conditioning, lol. I'm sure Chad has been posting from work and let everyone know we're okay. The damage we suffered was very minimal compared to many others. We only lost our fence and the satellite dish (one of the old big ones) flew off the roof. I thank God we're all okay and our house made it through just fine. I found some posts from Tom and John, so I'm glad to know they're okay. Everyone accounted for? :) I've sure missed this place. Very glad to be back. :)

Welcome back Jenn! Any word on when you'll get power back at your house? As they say... "There's no place like home! " :-)

Welcome back, Jenn! Yes, Chad has been posting from work. It has been great hearing from him. :)

As I've mentioned, Charley didn't do much of anything in the "tri-county" of Lake/Sumter/Marion. I was watching the local news coverage as the storm moved northeastward through the Orlando southwest suburbs, through the city to Deltona and eventually to Palm Coast (between St. Augustine and Daytona Beach).

(Of course), it would have been a totally different scenario if the center of the hurricane past through Tampa Bay (like originally forecast), over Marshall and Johnathan's area northeastward to my west and northwest.

I hope you, Chad and Dustin get electricity and air conditioning very soon.

And one more thing... give Dustin a "Storm2K Hug!" :D

Jen - thanks for checking in. I hope your power comes back on very soon! I would be going crazy without it too. Sounds normal from what I've read at the Hurricane forum, after a Hurricane. Still, it must be a real pain to go w/o it. You're lucky that Satellite dish didn't do any serious damage! We have Dish Network and our dish is small, a little larger than a dinner plate. If you go with Satellite again, you'll probably get the smaller size.

Glad you get to enjoy your mom's hooked back up status! I FINALLY reached my friends in Port Charlotte last night, stunned when the phone actually rang and shocked when it was answered! Out of about 20 friends there, no one was hurt and only one lost a roof. About half of them live in trailers where damage on all sides was complete or close to it, with them only suffering lost carports, truly miraculous, considering what we all already know about the damage suffered.
Some will be out of work for at least a couple of months as places they work are heavily damaged, but everyone was in good spirits, hanging together and helping each other get through these days and nights of no power, and until very recently, no phones. Billy said he was talking with one of his neighbors and they each agreed it was a hell of a thing that it took a hurricane for them to exchange more than friendly hello's!

Hey Jen - when you get power back and everything is getting back to normal, I'm half expecting a gender type war joke list - how men cope with a hurricane vs how women cope with a hurricane. Or without power? I know you're just itching to start one or find one!!! When it comes down to it, what irks women doesn't quite irk men. For one example, I have to blow-dry my hair everyday - I have a style that looks okay only if it's blown-dry. Air dry and I look like I just rolled out of bed! So for me I'd be missing my blow-dryer something awful by now!!! Or wearing a hat everyday! Jim would be saying - oh what's the big deal? You look fine honey....

There, did that get the wheels turning? LOL

Mary

PS - to anyone new here, I certainly don't mean to take Hurricane Charley's damage and fatalities lightly and in a joking manner. Please know that. My heart just goes out to folks who lost homes and families that lost loved ones. It's just that Jen is almost famous for posting gender war jokes!!! We expect that of her practically by now. LOL
