Finally back on

#1 Postby Downdraft » Fri Aug 20, 2004 12:19 pm

Finally got full power restored today. Life north of Orlando is slowly returning to normal. Almost all power has been restored, water and sewage getting back to service and the panic buying for gas and stuff has stopped. Lot's of rip-off contractors running around but the cops have been doing great shutting them down. I know one thing for sure, Central Florida will never blow off another hurricane warning......

Happy you're OK, downdraft. Hope everything is looking brighter. I agree, no one in Florida should disregard a 'cane -- no matter what the forecast track.

Welcome back, Downdraft! It was a relatively close call here. Hurricane Charley's eye passed 35 to 45 miles southeast of me... didn't bring much more than a brief shower and breezy conditions. I will say the peak wind gust was about 45 mph or so.

Chad, awesome, you work next to WOFL-TV 35 (FOX35)! I love hearing people that live or work near televisoin stations/network affiliates. -- something most people don't find "exciting." :)

Chad you work a few blocks from my house. I'm with public safety here and it's funny how some areas got hit more than others. I keep hearing about tornado damage but have driven around the county a lot and only seen straight line wind damage. I've visited every area that said "we had a tornado" but see no evidence of tornadic winds in the damage areas. I can't say we didn't have some small twisters but just can't find any evidence.

First, I'm glad you're ok and back on line!!

I am surprised you can't find any evidence of tornado damage. It was evident here in Houston after Alicia. I know you know what you are looking for too, so I have no reason to question your statement except that it does surprise me due to my own experiences.
