The Dakar observations doesn't show too much lower pressures but shows wave axis passage as the wind directions data indicates.

Despite some of the clouds warming up a bit this morning the organization still looks good as some banding features are showing up.Let's see what the global models show in their next runs but some of them where jumping on it at the 00z run.I will give it 3 days to see how it evolves.

...an interesting fact here: whether this wave isupgraded to Frances or not, this will be the last time the name is used.

http://www.wmo.ch/web/www/TCP/Reports/H ... rt-eng.doc

5.20 | The Committee recalled that, at its session in 2002, the delegate from France requested consideration of a change of the name “Frances”, which is on the list for 2004, to be made at this session. The Committee agreed to change the name after the 2004 hurricane season. The Committee also decided to retire the names of the three hurricanes that caused significant damage and loss of life during 2002. These were Isidore and Lili in the North Atlantic basin, and Kenna in the Eastern North Pacific basin. Regarding a change of the name “Lili”, it will be made at the twenty-sixth session of the Committee in April 2004. The other two, i.e. Isidore and Kenna were replaced by the names Ike and Karina respectively, which will be reflected in the WMO RA IV Hurricane Operational Plan.

So a "politically correct" tropical list name...gotta hand it to France!

I think Frances is stupid name as well, especially for hurricane. I couldn't care less if they got rid of it.

It's OK. No worse than Fabian, Isabel, Lili, and Claudette.

Man, I'm telling you. It's been a very mild summer, and the weather this past week has felt like September. You get the feeling that we may be in for a rough winter?

Shhh...

I'm hoping last winter was the rough winter. I'm not ready to face another 2 feet of snow in front of my garage.

This wave looks a lot like Danielle did as she came off the coast. Has a well defined and high-amplitude wave with it. There is an even more impressive wave over the continent. I don't have a link at the moment...sorry.

whispers to mike....My early analogs suggest there COULD be a major Midwest "event" of sorts this winter--in addition to lots of cold.

Ok...here is one. Doesn't look as impressive as it did earlier, but there is still a lot of activity.
