Post Charley Update
Well.. tensions are still boiling here.. It's been 10 days since Charley and I still have no power..
The food we had stacked for the hurricane is actually beginning to get scarce.. and I'm getting a little sick of eating cereal lol..
Though we do have plenty of water so I'm at least staying cool under our sauna of a roof lol..
Most of my community has had it's power back for days.. My mom even got hers back 3 hours after Charley hit lol..
But in a sign of normalcy.. schools resumed across Central Florida today, It was actually a welcome sight to hear the school buses and the kids roaming this morning..

I guess I'm in part of the 10 percent that doesn't lol..
Hours without lights: too many to count by now lol
I'm sorry. I can't imagine even be without power for more than a few hours, much less 10 days. Hope you get it back soon. You must live on the outskirts of town, LOL

Years ago when I lost power in frederick (just 7 days) We were the last to get ours restored. It was because they do the easiest first and then work through by difficulty. That way they can restore power to more customers faster. In my case the box was knocked off the side of our house so we were one of the last to be restored. It was really bad so I can understand some of what you are going through. Of course I was well inland and did not have near the damage ya'll are having to deal with. My prayers and thoughts are with all of you.

I was without power for two weeks after my big adventure in Frederic. I guess you can say I lived in the boonies back then, but even after 2 weeks we weren't the last to see the lights go on. I've said it once and I'll say it again, riding the storm out is nothing compared with the next couple of months afterward.

...seems there's always one in every crowd who asks us not to look at our own turmoil when compared to that of others. I've been without power for 17 days (Camille), and I know it ain't no fun. It does present a major, albeit temporary, change to one's the lifestyle.

I really meant what I said, as I stated it, but I will add that I am often the *one in every crowd* in certain situations. Yes, being without power is difficult - and every situation is personal. But I said the same thing to my daughter(also without power) in Orlando and friends in Port Charlotte who will be without work for months as their place of employment is gone now, and it helped her shift her gears a bit - the friends in Port Charlotte are just pretty ecstatic to be alive and hanging together making the best of tragedy...which in stressful times is about the best I know how to hope for.

All good points, caribepr, and I appreciate your sticking to your viewpoint. You are right, every situation is personal, and we all live in our own existence. Levels of tragedy can be truly measured only by those suffering through it at the time. But your point is well made – the most anyone can hope for is to do their best in the face of adversity, no matter how significant or insignificant the impact may be...
